Food City 500 - Jeff Green Notes

JEFF GREEN
NO. 66 BEST BUY HAAS CNC RACING CHEVROLET
BRISTOL MOTOR SPEEDWAY PREVIEW

BEST BUY RACING’S NEW WEBSITE: Best Buy Racing has launched a new website, www.racing.bestbuy.com. The site gives fans and Best Buy employees access to all the latest news and information on the No. 66 Best Buy Haas CNC Racing team and driver Jeff Green.

Q&A WITH DRIVER JEFF GREEN:

YOU’VE HAD TWO GOOD RUNS THE LAST TWO WEEKS, BUT NOT NECESSARILY THE FINISHES TO SHOW FOR IT. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS WEEKEND? “Man, it’s hard to say how we’ll end up. Bristol’s just such a different track. You can have the best car in the field and get taken out on the first lap, or you can have a mediocre car and win if you can miss the accidents and keep your nose clean.

“I feel really good about how Bootie and I are communicating and how the team’s working together. We just have to eliminate the costly mistakes and we’ll get a top-10 finish very soon. I’m hoping it happens this weekend, but Bristol can just as easily chew you up and spit you out, so we’ll just drive hard and hope for the best.”

Q&A WITH CREW CHIEF “BOOTIE” BARKER:

WHAT’S YOUR OPINION OF BRISTOL MOTOR SPEEDWAY? “I love Bristol, but it’s just too random in terms of how the race may go for you. You can get wrecked at any time from any position on the track. You don’t have much control over your own destiny. A lot of it’s just luck, and I don’t really like to have to rely on luck in any kind of situation.”

KNOWING THAT IT COULD COME BACK HEAVILY DAMAGED, DO YOU STILL SEND YOUR BEST CAR TO BRISTOL? “Well, we have two cars that are pretty much tailor made for Bristol. If we wreck them, we’ll just build more. Nowadays, you can’t afford not to send your absolute best car to the track every week. So, yes, we don’t hold anything back in terms of the cars we send, and the best piece does go to Bristol. You just cross your fingers and hope it comes home in one piece.”

YOU WERE IN THE TOP-10 AT ATLANTA BEFORE A TIRE PROBLEM CROPPED UP, SO YOU HAVE TO BE PLEASED WITH THE WAY THE TEAM HAS PERFORMED, IF NOT THE FINISHES. “Yeah, the performance on track has been there the last couple of weeks, but the problems have killed us. It was a mistake on pit road at Atlanta, plain and simple. Still, our car was good before and after we had the problem. Unfortunately, it doesn’t matter where you ran all day, it just matters where you finish. As exciting as it is to run well, it’s very disappointing when something that’s avoidable costs you a shot at your best finish of the year.”

JEFF GREEN’S HISTORY AT BRISTOL MOTOR SPEEDWAY: In 11 Cup series starts at Bristol, Jeff Green has one pole, which he scored in the August, 2001, race while driving for Richard Childress Racing. Green’s best finish was a 17th-place result, which came in the August, 1998, race while driving for Felix Sabates.

HAAS CNC RACING’S HISTORY AT BRISTOL MOTOR SPEEDWAY: In six Nextel Cup Series starts at Bristol Motor Speedway, Haas CNC Racing’s best starting spot was scored by driver Ward Burton in August, 2004, when he qualified 16th. The team’s best finish came last August with driver Mike Bliss, who finished seventh.
