Food City 500 - Bristol Motor Speedway
Kurt Busch Wins Again in Thunder Valley
There were a couple of familiar sights this afternoon in Thunder Valley, the blue deuce and Kurt Busch in victory lane at Bristol. However this was the first time that they did it together. Retired driver of the No. 2 car, Rusty Wallace, won nine times here at Bristol Motor Speedway, while Busch now has five, winning for the first time in the Miller Lite Dodge. Busch used the old ‘bump and run’ on former teammate Matt Kenseth with five laps to go and held on for the final five laps to win the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway, scoring his 15th career NASCAR NEXTEL Cup victory in his 189th career start. His last victory came at Richmond, 13 races earlier. In 11 races at Bristol, Busch has won five times and scored eight top-ten finishes. With the victory, Busch moved into 42nd on NASCAR’s all-time winners list, tied with Ernie Irvan. Kevin Harvick finished second for the second day in a row, having also grabbed the runner-up spot behind the younger Busch in Saturday's race. Matt Kenseth finished third, scoring his sixth top-five finish in 13 races at Bristol Motor Speedway. He climbed from third to first in the NASCAR NEXTEL cup standings. The last time Kenseth led the point standings was leaving Bristol in March of 2004. Busch climbed from eighth to fifth in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup point standings, his highest points ranking since he ranked fifth after Richmond in Race No. 26 last September. Carl Edwards came home in fourth place, his first ever top-10 finish at Bristol. Bobby Labonte rounded out the top-five finishing positions, notching the first top-ten effort for the No. 43 when Jeff Green finished seventh at Martinsville in October 2004.
Friday Activities Washed Out at Bristol, Stewart Gets Pole
Friday's activities at Bristol Motor Speedway have been canceled due to weather. Cold weather that included both snow and rain caused the starting lineup for the Food City 500 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race to be set according to the NASCAR rulebook. Defending NASCAR Nextel Cup champion Tony Stewart inherits the pole position due to his first-place standing in the 2005 owner points. Saturday's schedule at Bristol remains the same, but there will be a NASCAR Busch Series practice added from 8 - 9:20 a.m.
