2005 NEXTEL Open Winner: Brian Vickers
2005 Fan Vote Recipient: Martin Truex Jr.

NEXTEL Open: Two segments totaling 30 laps (20-10)
Race Length: 45 miles

NASCAR NEXTEL All-Star Challenge: Three segments totaling 90 laps (40-30-20)
Race Length: 135 miles

NASCAR NEXTEL All-Star Challenge
Eligibility: Race winners from the 2005 and 2006 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup seasons; Winner of the NEXTEL Open; the NEXTEL Open driver who wins the fan vote into the all-star event and finishes on the lead lap of the NEXTEL Open; Past winners of the NASCAR NEXTEL All-Star Challenge from the previous 10 seasons; NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Champions from the previous 10 seasons who are active drivers and have competed in at least one series event during the 2005 or 2006 season.
Qualifying: Time trials will be three laps, including a pit stop for four new tires. Total elapsed time of the three-lap qualifying run will determine starting positions for the NASCAR NEXTEL All-Star Challenge. The pit road speed limit will be in effect when cars enter pit road but will not be in effect when cars exit.
Inversion: During the 10-minute pit stop between the first and second segments, a random drawing will determine whether as few as six or as many as 12 cars will be inverted.

NEXTEL Open
Eligibility: To qualify for the NEXTEL Open, drivers must be in the top 50 of the final 2005 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series points standings or in the top 50 of the current NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series points standings as of March 13, 2006.
Qualifying: Time trials will be two consecutive qualifying laps. Faster lap determines qualifying position. Two drivers will transfer to the NASCAR NEXTEL All-Star Challenge, one by winning the NEXTEL Open and the other by receiving the highest number of fan votes and also finishing on the lead lap of the NEXTEL Open.
