Robby Gordon’s Quotes on Atlanta
It looked like you were going to score your first win as a Nextel Cup team owner the last time around at Atlanta. Will you be able to complete that benchmark this weekend?
“I think we have a better chance this weekend than we had back in the spring. We figured some things out in our intermediate program and had the run at Charlotte a couple of weeks ago to prove it. That car was easily capable of a top-five finish much like our car at Atlanta back in the spring.
“Our results should definitely improve at those types of tracks, but we need to ditch the bad luck we’ve had lately. Our luck has been pretty rotten lately, but the guys at the shop and at the track still give a hundred percent day-in-and-day-out.”
Jim Beam Fast Facts
Welcome Back – This weekend’s event will mark the final appearance of the 2006 NASCAR Nextel Cup Series season for Jim Beam as the primary sponsor of Gordon’s No. 7 Chevrolet. Dedicated to socially responsible drinking, Jim Beam launched its awareness program, drink smart®, in 1995 as an educational program that communicates the importance of responsible consumption by adults of legal purchase age that choose to drink. drink smart® means: If you’re of legal age and you choose to drink, do so responsibly; Do not drink if you’re under 21; Don’t drive drunk; If you can’t drink smart – don’t drink at all. Harrah’s, Menards and CarLoan.com will serve as associates.
Chassis – Robby Gordon Motorsports will run Chassis No. 104 at this weekend’s event. No. 104 acted as the primary during Gordon’s last run at Martinsville Speedway in April where an engine failure sidelined Gordon and relegated him to 43rd-place finish. Chassis No. 109 will assume back-up duties.
Points Position – With a disappointing 37th this past weekend at Martinsville, Robby Gordon fell one spot to 28th in driver points, a mere 13 from regaining 27th and 82 points behind 25th.
Robby Gordon Atlanta Highlights
While Gordon will be making his 12th career start at Atlanta Motor Speedway, it was his first that was the most memorable as he captured his first career pole in the spring of 1997 driving for Sabco Racing.
