Bass Pro Shops 500 - Kevin Harvick Notes

Kevin Harvick
No. 29 Reese's Chevy Atlanta Preview

START TIME: The Bass Pro Shops 500 will take the green flag Sunday, October 29th at 2:30 p.m. EST and will be telecast live on NBC. This event can also be heard on PRN radio as well as XM Satellite Radio. Qualifying will air live on SPEED Channel and XM Satellite Radio Friday, October 27th at 7:00 p.m. EST.

MARTINSVILLE RECAP: After starting 12th for Sunday’s running of the Subway 500 at Martinsville Speedway, GM Goodwrench/Reese’s driver Kevin Harvick found himself behind the wheel of a tight race car for much of the first half of the race. After being caught up in a multi-car accident on Lap 231, Harvick spent the second half of the 500-lap event narrowly avoiding wrecks and making stunning passes to climb his way into the top-10. The No. 29 GM Goodwrench team’s efforts moved Harvick to second in the point standings. With only four races remaining in the Chase for the NEXTEL Cup, Harvick is just 36 points behind leader Matt Kenseth.

RUNNING IT: The No. 29 Reese’s/GM Goodwrench transporter will unload chassis No. 174 this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway. This chassis was run earlier this year at Indy and Charlotte. Harvick drove it to a third place finish in Indy while coming home 18th at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.

ATLANTA STATS: Harvick has 11 starts at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Of those 11 starts, he has compiled a record of one win, two top-five finishes, two top-10 finishes, and three DNF’s.

WELCOME BACK REESE’S: Reese’s orange will don the hood this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Reese’s is one of five special paint schemes The Hershey Company will run throughout the 2006 season.

MEDIA AVAILABILITY: Kevin Harvick will be available to the media on Friday, October 27th at 5:25 p.m. at the No. 29 hauler.

ONE CHAMPIONSHIP DOWN; ONE TO GO: Kevin Harvick won his second Busch Series Championship two weeks ago at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. Harvick could become the first driver in NASCAR history to win both the NEXTEL Cup and Busch Series Championships in the same year. Harvick sits 36 points behind leader Matt Kenseth with four races remaining.

QUOTES:
HOW DO YOU FAIR WITH THE TRACKS REMAINING: "I think everyone is feeling really good. We have pretty much had four out of five weeks that haven't gone our way and we are still second in the points. We have four good race tracks in front of us, so if we can have four good races, we will be good. I think everybody is fine where we are based on the weeks that we have had."

ON ATLANTA MOTOR SPEEDWAY: "Atlanta just wears the tires out. You have a tough time getting a hold of the race track. You can move all around and race all over the race track. It is just worn out which makes it a pretty fun place to race. It hasn't been very good to us lately, but it is fun because you can race all over it."

WHAT DO YOU REMEMBER FROM YOUR FIRST NASCAR CUP SERIES WIN AT AMS IN 2001: “I remember how emotional it was for everyone, including myself, and RCR. It almost felt like a dream. I think that race was very important to the beginning of the healing process that still goes on to this day.”

ON WINNING BUSCH CHAMPIONSHIP: "Just to have the opportunity to run for both of them is pretty incredible. Those were the goals we set at the beginning of the season, to run for both championships. To lock up the Busch championship and be in contention for the Cup championship is pretty much what we asked for. It is pretty cool just to have that opportunity."
