Golden Corral 500 - Elliott Sadler Notes

ELLIOTT SADLER, COMBOS® RACING
ATLANTA MOTOR SPEEDWAY
MARCH 19, 2005

SADLER SEARCHES FOR THIRD STRAIGHT TOP-10 AT AMS

CHARLOTTE, NC (March 14, 2006) – Last season Atlanta Motor Speedway (AMS) was a favorite stop on the schedule for Elliott Sadler and his #38 Robert Yates Racing Team. On each visit, Sadler proved to be a perfect 10 finishing in the 10 spot in both March and October. It wasn’t just Sunday success as the Friday edition of Team 38 was stout as well, notching 11th and third place starting spots respectively.

Sadler only has one start in the top-15 during the 2006 season, surprising for the driver who posted the second highest total of pole positions in 2005. The first starting spot also has eluded Sadler at Atlanta but the 1.5-mile track remains a target for the Virginia native to clinch his seventh career pole. Starting at the front in the Combos® Ford Fusion plays a key role in Sadler’s challenge to clinch his third top-10 finish at AMS.

Quoting M&M’S Driver Elliott Sadler:

“We definitely caught a break in Las Vegas with that final caution. We had been a top-25 car all day and Tommy (Baldwin, crew chief) made the call to come in and take four tires. That was definitely the right call because on that restart we were able to pass a ton of cars on the inside and finish 14th. We’re eighth in points and for the two finishes we’ve had in California and Las Vegas, we’re pretty happy to be in the position we’re in with the points.”

“We ran the same car in California and Vegas but we’re bringing a different car to Atlanta, hoping to turn things around a little bit. I think starting up front here is a big factor in this race. This is a 500 mile race and we get spread out pretty quick here so it’s important to get a good starting spot, get a good pit selection for Sunday, help my guys get me off pit road and hopefully get another top-10 finish.”

“Atlanta is definitely a track that we focus on for getting a good starting spot. I’ve never had a pole here but would love to get one for Doug Yates and the engine department. We qualify at night when it’s cool and as everyone knows this is a really fast, fast track so we’d like to show off our horsepower and get a good starting spot for Sunday.”
