Edwards - Just a Shave Too Close
Edwards' motorcoach driver is not shaving until Edwards wins again
What started as a joke between two friends has turned into a great story for everyone. Giacchi told Edwards after his win in Texas that he wouldn't shave his beard until the end of the season. However, during the off season, Giacchi took it a step further and told Edwards he wouldn't shave until Edwards won again in 2006.
Giacchi has been driving for Edwards since the beginning of the 2005 season. Since then, he has driven over 40,000 miles on the NASCAR circuit. On race days you won't find Giacchi relaxing in the motorcoach, he has positioned himself as a regular crew member on both the Busch and Cup teams.
Giacchi said the beard makes him look older, but the time has come, he is ready to see it go. "It's really funny to have this beard, you know, I have never really had one before in my life. My beard now has gotten really, really long, to the point that it tickles my ears. I made a promise to Carl that I would shave everything off right there in Victory Lane."
Edwards thinks it is great that Giacchi was able to contribute to the team saying, "Tom took it upon himself to dedicate his head and facial hair to the cause and hopefully he will be clean-shaven soon. His facial hair is a direct reflection of the frustration of our team. If he has a lot, it has not been a good year. And if he is trimmed up, spic and span, that means we are doing good."
Giacchi hopes Edwards will land himself back in Victory Lane soon so he can "trim up" for the 2006 season. Look for Giacchi this weekend at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway as Edwards competes in both the Sam's Town 300 and the UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400.
