  • Challenger, CAT and BDR get racing & agriculture in gear … The Challenger® brand, which already graces a full line of quality tractors, combines and hay tools, made an appearance in a whole new venue this past weekend — on the NASCAR Nextel Cup racing circuit in the Allstate 400 at The Brickyard. Through an agreement with Bill Davis Racing, the Challenger brand is a new associate sponsor on the No. 22 Caterpillar® car through the end of the 2006 racing season. It also is scheduled to be the primary sponsor on the No. 23 NASCAR Nextel Cup car, driven by Johnny Benson, in the Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway this October. For more information on any of Challenger’s full line of agricultural products visit www.challengerag.com.
  • Meet Wimmer at The Glen … Scott Wimmer will stop by his merchandise trailer on souvenir row at Watkins Glen International to meet fans and sign autographs from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 14.
  • Third time could be the charm for younger Wimmer … This weekend at Nashville Superspeedway, Chris Wimmer is going to make his third NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series start of the 2005 season behind the wheel of the No. 08 Chevrolet Silverado. Wimmer’s start this weekend will also mark the third time this year he has teamed up with Bobby Dotter and Gene Christiansen’s Green Light Racing Team. Wimmer will also have a teammate, with Rich Bickle piloting the No. 07 Green Light Racing Chevy. In June, the younger Wimmer raced at The Milwaukee Mile (started 17th, finished 22nd), and then went on to compete in July at The Memphis Motorsports Park (started 24th, finished 17th). Wimmer is aiming for nothing less than a top-10 finish this weekend at the Tennessee track, where he raced last year for MB Motorsports but had a disappointing finish due to engine failure. Qualifying for the Toyota Tundra 200 is scheduled to start at Noon ET Saturday, Aug. 13. The Toyota Tundra 200 race is scheduled to start later that same day at 5:15 p.m. ET and will broadcast LIVE on Speed (TV), MRN (radio) and XM Radio channel 144. Quotes:
Scott, what are your thoughts as you prepare to head to Watkins Glen International?
“The guys built a brand new car for the race this weekend, and we took it to test at VIR [Virginia International Raceway] Tuesday. VIR is very different from Watkins Glen, but we mainly took it there to make sure the brakes were good and to make sure we have good tire clearance.

“The biggest thing about road course racing is not to break anything. I say this every time we go road racing, but it isn’t my strong suit. However, it isn’t always about who is the best road racer, it is about who can stay clean and not break anything before making that last lap. We had a pretty good run in Sonoma earlier this year, so we are definitely going to revert to what we learned there.

“I’m looking forward to going to New York this weekend. I learn more and more every time we visit a road course on the schedule. Learning is always a good thing and it’s even better when it is fun, and it’s always a fun education at a road course race … if you manage to stay out of trouble.”
