Sirius Satellite Radio at the Glen - Ford Post-Race Quotes
MARK MARTIN - No. 6 Viagra Taurus - "It was a great run. We were a little too loose, and we never adjusted for it. I kept thinking it would come to us, and it never did. So on that last long run I used my back tires up, but it was a strong run. What an awesome team I have here. Pat Tryson is doing great on the strategy, and it's looking better and better to make that Chase. Once we get in there, we got some awesome motors made up we haven't used, we got horsepower we hadn't used yet, and we got great race cars that we're not using in a pile of tests. So, it's looking better every week." YOU RAN TOWARD THE FRONT ALL DAY. "This team is awesome. We were off a little bit but we didn't come and test here. We're saving our tests, and Pat was confident that we would run good enough. The main thing is to make the Chase and save those tests. We're going to have four or five left for the 10-race run there."
CARL EDWARDS - No. 99 Office Depot Taurus - "We did what we had to do today. I'm not very good here yet. I'm learning a lot. I didn't break the transmission, didn't run off the race course and finished 19th. That could have been a lot worse, so I'm satisfied with that. It's not what we wanted; we would've been really, really been excited about a top-10, but that was pretty good." MORE ON STAYING OUT OF TROUBLE. "We stayed out of trouble. Man, that's a big deal here, just not wrecking. It's so easy to wreck. I'm happy that we ended up with a straight race car."
ELLIOTT SADLER - No. 38 M&M's Taurus - "We needed this so bad today as a race team. We've been struggling so much the last month or so, and I've just been so beat down so bad as a driver. My guys have been behind me 100 percent, and to come here and finish 12th is a great finish for us. We had about a fourth- or fifth-place car, but me going to the rear of the field, blowing a motor, coming back through , I'll take it. I was waiting for the bottom to fall out or something to happen with 10 laps to go, I just kept waiting for something bad to happen, but it never did. To finish 12th, it's a great finish for us. It didn't put us in the top 10, but it gets us closer to it." ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT WEEK AT MICHIGAN? "I'm looking forward to the next four races. The whole season comes into four races, and we think we have put our best foot forward as far as cars are lined up. We've got a really good car for Bristol. We've got my favorite car, taking it to California. We're going back to test again at Richmond. We think we've done the things to get us in position, we just need some luck like we did today, and we should be fine." MORE ON HIS FINISH. "This is a great finish for us. I'm not the best at Watkins Glen. My record speaks for itself. To start at the rear of the field, having to change motors, everything I messed up prior to the race - I was so down in the dumps Friday night I couldn't even sleep. To come back and finish 12th today is a great accomplishment - for me as a driver, for us as a team. We had a fourth- or fifth-place car. We can only run as fast as the guys in front of us can run, but all in all it was a great day." WAS IT A CASE OF GOOD STRATEGY? "I'll tell you what, we had a good strategy and we stuck to it for a while, but this is the fastest I've ever run on a road course. I passed more cars today than I passed I think my whole life put together at Watkins Glen. We tested here and we had a good car testing. So, I'll beg Todd [Parrott, crew chief] maybe to let me come test up here again, because it's a whole lot more fun on road courses when you need where you need to past at and you know where you need to be fast at, and things like that."
RICKY RUDD - No. 21 Motorcraft Genuine Parts Taurus - "We had everything going our way until I'm not really sure what happened on our pit stop. We had some equipment break; I'm not sure what happened. I'm not sure what actually failed. That just killed us, and we got a gas tank get caught up and had to come back in." YOU THEN MADE UP A NUMBER OF POSITIONS. "We were going to end up somewhere in the top five. The car was just really good on long runs. We started back and had to make up time, then we had all that stuff go wrong and we had to start dead last with not-too-many laps left and we were able to get back to 16th, I guess."
