SAID FEELS TIME IS RIPE FOR FIRST CUP WIN

WATKINS Glen, N.Y. (Aug. 9, 2005) -- "It's time to get it done," says Boris Said when talking about this weekend's second and final Nextel Cup road race of the season at Watkins Glen International.

The road-racing sultan, who has won many times on international sports car circuits, feels the time is ripe to claim his first Nextel Cup victory.

"I've been close a few of times, including in Sonoma a couple of months ago," offered Said. "I know I can do it -- the pieces of the puzzle are in place. I have a great crew, led by Frankie Stoddard, top notch cars built at the MB2 shop and powerful Hendrick engines. I can't ask for anything more than what I've already received from MB/Sutton Motorsports. It's the best team I've been with."

Said's primary goal at Watkins Glen is to put himself in position to win.

"The first objective is to be running in the top five with 20 laps to go -- if I can do that then I will have a chance to win," explained Said.

Said feels the two best shots he had winning his first NASCAR Cup race were in Sonoma in June and at the 2003 Watkins Glen event.

"Those two races still cause me to wake up from a dead sleep," explained Said. "A pit road penalty was costly in Sonoma this year and I got dumped from behind at The Glen by Robby Gordon two years ago. I had great cars in both of those races and felt I could have had a strong chance of winning each one."

Said continues to feel the talent level of Cup drivers on a road course has increased dramatically since he first got the call to race at Watkins Glen in 1999. But the two Cup drivers he feels have set the bar on road courses are Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon.

"They (Stewart and Gordon) are the best and I would like nothing better than to be challenging them for a win on Sunday," noted Said. "There are so many good drivers out there on a road course, but I believe that Tony and Jeff are a notch ahead of the field."

Cheering on Said in Watkins Glen will be the boisterous "Saidhead" fan club with members wearing wigs resembling Said's trademark bushy afro.

"Watkins Glen is as close to a home track that I have," noted Said. "I have more fans at The Glen than anyplace else. The Saidheads are a cool bunch of people and they have a lot of fun at the races."

Said has competed at Watkins Glen four times. His best finish was eighth in 2001 and his best qualifying effort was second in 1999. Said missed two races at The Glen because of rain canceling qualifying -- in 2001 and last year.

Along with competing in the MB/Sutton Nextel Cup entry this weekend, Said will also race in Saturday’s Busch race for James Finch’s No. 1 team.
