KYLE BUSCH NOTES & QUOTES
MILE HIGH MONDAY NIGHT:
NEXTEL Cup rookie Kyle Busch attended his first-ever NFL game Monday evening in Denver. Busch, who was joined by crew chief Alan Gustafson and several members of his Kellogg’s Racing team, watched the Denver Broncos route the Kansas City Chiefs 30-10.
HENDRICK AT ‘DEGA:
Car owner Rick Hendrick has six Cup Series victories at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway, site of this weekend’s 500-miler. He now sits in a three-way tie for second on the all-time list with Dale Earnhardt Inc. and Rainer Racing. Richard Childress leads with nine wins at the 2.66-mile tri-oval.
OCTOBER BUSY FOR BUSCH:
The month of October will be more hectic than usual for Busch. The 20-year-old driver has a busy testing calendar, including stops at Caraway Speedway (Asheboro, N.C.), Texas Motor Speedway and Homestead-Miami Speedway. Along with his full-time NEXTEL Cup schedule, Busch will compete in two Busch Series races (Kansas City, Kan., and Concord, N.C.) and two Craftsman Truck Series events (Martinsville, Va., and Atlanta).
CHASSIS 362 FOR ‘5’:
Alan Gustafson, crew chief of the No. 5 Kellogg’s Chevrolets, has selected Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 362 for Sunday’s event at Talladega. The car has never been raced.
SUPER SIGNING:
Busch will greet fans and sign autographs outside Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday beginning at 10:20 a.m. ET. A limited number of tickets will be distributed that morning at the Kellogg’s Racing souvenir rig.
KYLE BUSCH, DRIVER OF THE NO. 5 KELLOGG’S CHEVROLETS:
(ON RACING AT TALLADEGA.) “Really, the only thing we’re hoping for this weekend is a finish. The Kellogg’s team has put a lot of effort into this new speedway car and Hendrick Motorsports, as a whole, has been impressive on the superspeedways. I think if things fall into place we can be successful this weekend. Talladega is more or less a place where you hope for the best, expect the worst and just try to get through it.”
BUSCH:
(WHAT WILL YOUR STRATEGY BE THIS WEEKEND?) “The last Talladega race we didn’t qualify so well, so we rode around in the back and watched everyone race each other while still staying in the draft. Once we decided to make our move and get in the middle of things, we got caught up in the big wreck. I’d like to qualify up front and stay up front, just like Jeff (Gordon) did in the spring. At Dover we had a 1-2 Hendrick Motorsports finish, but it would be better to have a 1-2-3-4 Hendrick finish with Jimmie (Johnson), Jeff and Brian (Vickers).”
ALAN GUSTAFSON, CREW CHIEF OF THE NO. 5 KELLOGG’S CHEVROLETS:
(ON TALLADEGA.) “So far this season we are ‘0-for-3’ on the restrictor plate tracks. We just want to stay out of trouble and race our race. If we can come out of Talladega without being in a wreck and finish in the top 20, that will make me very happy. You can’t predict the unpredictable. When these guys are running so close together it doesn’t matter who has the best car. It’s who has the most friends and can get in position to win.”
