Aaron's 499 - Carl Edwards Notes

Talladega Superspeedway, Talladega, AL, April 30-May 1, 2005
NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series: Aaron’s 499, Sunday at 1:20 pm

Carl Edwards
Team: No. 99 Scotts Ford Taurus
Crew Chief: Bob Osborne
Chassis: RK- 232 (raced at both Daytona and both Talladega races in 2004)

Carl Edwards on racing at Talladega:
"I'm really excited to go to Talladega this week. Last year we had a really good car and I was having so much fun running three and four wide. Unfortunately we broke at the end of the race and didn't have a chance to compete for the win but man we were awesome before that. We are taking the same car I raced there last year so I'm feeling pretty good. We have a special Ortho paint scheme this week so hopefully we'll be able to weed our way through the field and be up front at the end."

Crew Chief Bob Osborne on racing at Talladega:
"I think we have a pretty good car heading into this weekend's race; we're real excited about our chances. RK-232 is the same car we raced at both Daytona and Talladega last year. In the fall race at Talladega we ran up front a good part of the day but unfortunately a mechanical failure got us towards the end. Carl has been doing a great job this year and with each week he gets better and better so I think he'll be pretty good this weekend. Cars will shuffle around 20 times before the checkered flag falls so I think as long as we can avoid the 'big wreck' we should be fine."

Fast Facts

  • The No. 99 Ford will carry a special Ortho Season-Long paint scheme this weekend at Talladega Superspeedway.
  • This will be Carl Edwards' second start at the track. During last year's fall race Edwards raced to the front of the field but a mechanical failure ended his day early and he went on to finish 42nd.
  • After Edwards’ spectacular finish last week at Phoenix (he came from two laps down late in the race to finish on the lead lap in seventh), he jumped five spots in the overall NEXTEL Cup point standings to eighth. He currently sits 281 points out of first and just 30 points out of fifth. In eight starts this year Edwards has accrued one win, two top-five and three top-10 finishes.
