TERRY LABONTE NOTES & QUOTES
‘TEXAS TERRY’ MAKING FINAL ’05 APPEARANCE:
Terry Labonte will start his final race of the 2005 season on Sunday at Texas Motor Speedway. The Corpus Christi, Texas, native, who has run a partial NEXTEL Cup schedule in 2005, tested the 1.5-mile tri-oval Oct. 25-26 and unofficially topped the speed chart on the final day. Labonte has entered 10 events in Hendrick Motorsports’ No. 44 Chevrolets this year and will race another 10 with the organization in 2006.
NEXT WIN WILL BE 140TH FOR HENDRICK:
Jeff Gordon’s first-place finish Oct. 23 at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway gave Rick Hendrick his 139th Cup-level victory, tying him with legendary team owner Junior Johnson for second on NASCAR’s all-time list (1949-present). Hendrick, who leads all Cup owners in modern-era wins (1972-present), now trails only Petty Enterprises overall.
LABONTE AT TMS:
Labonte is one of just two drivers with five top-10 finishes at Texas Motor Speedway, where his 1999 victory still stands as the track’s race record (3 hours, 28 minutes, 21 seconds).
