Dickies 500 - Carl Edwards Notes

Carl Edwards Advance
Texas Motor Speedway
November 3rd-6th Nextel Cup Series
Dickies 500 Sunday 2:50PM

Carl Edwards
Team: No. 99 Office Depot Ford Taurus
Crew Chief: Bob Osborne
Chassis Number: RK-281 (ran at second Bristol)

Edwards on racing at Texas Motor Speedway:
“I’m looking forward to going to Texas this week. I damaged the car just a little bit earlier this season when we raced there. If it wasn’t for that, I think we would have had a good race at Texas. I got into a little bit of a hurry and damaged the front of the car and we ended up not running very well. Texas is kind of an unknown but I think we have a great opportunity to run really well. I feel great about our chances coming up to these next few races. But anything can happen. We could run great or we could run awful, but we're gonna try our very best. There's still an opportunity for this Office Depot team to win a championship."

Crew Chief Bob Osborne on racing at Texas Motor Speedway:
“I'm planning on taking the sister car to the one we just raced this past weekend at Atlanta. It's a brand new car, built exactly like the one we raced last Sunday. It's not out of the ordinary for us to bring new cars to the race track sight unseen, so to speak. I think we should run well at Texas. We had a good car there in the spring but an early incident kind of derailed our chances at running well. Carl and the entire Office Depot team have really stepped up and given 110 percent this year. I don’t think we ever expected to be in ‘Chase’ but now that we are, we are in it to win. We’re going to do everything we can to win these last three races and possibly a championship.”

Fast Facts

  • Carl Edwards moved up one position in the overall point standings after his win at Atlanta. He is now tied for fourth with Ryan Newman each driver having 5,993 points. Edwards has the edge with three wins. Edwards now sits 107 points away from first place Tony Stewart, gaining 42 points this past weekend.

  • In 2005, Edwards has three wins (two Atlanta, first Pocono), 11 top-five and 15 top-10 finishes and his first Cup pole (California). Edwards became the sixth driver to sweep both Cup races at Atlanta.

  • Edwards raced the No. 99 Ford for the first time at Texas Motor Speedway earlier this spring. An incident early on in the race caused damage to the No. 99 Ford which hampered Edwards efforts to race to the front. He finished 19th, on the lead lap. In the Truck Series Edwards has been successful bringing home two top five and four top 10 finishes in just four starts.

  • With seven races down and three to go in the “Chase”, Edwards has one win, three top-fives and five top-10 finishes.
