JEFF BURTON QUOTES:
Why is Richmond a competitor and fan favorite track?
“Richmond is like a superspeedway and a short track all wrapped up in one. It’s a big enough race track to put on side-by-side racing but a small enough race track to keep the competition close and all the seats are close to the track. It’s just, in my opinion, the best all around environment that we have in our sport. Richmond doesn’t have as many cautions as Bristol and the racing is better.”
Richmond is another Saturday night race under the lights. Is this the way to go for NASCAR?
“I don’t know about the television ratings for Saturday night races, but being there in person it’s the way to go. There is a different environment for a night race. I think the fans are more excited about it, so for the event itself, I certainly think it’s the right thing to do. It generates a tremendous amount of excitement and build up for it, so I think there are a lot of positives for us running under the lights on Saturday nights.”
Is it special to win at Richmond since it is your home state?
“Oh yeah, I consider Richmond and Martinsville to be my hometown tracks. I take a lot of pride in being from Virginia, it’s a great state. Richmond is such a great facility. There are always a lot of people at Richmond that have known Ward and I, along with our entire family, for a long time, so I take a lot of pride in running well there.”
You have said your team’s testing strategy is to hold some test sessions back until we are moving
toward the mid-point in the season. Are you there yet, will you start testing more now?
“We are not quite there yet, we’re not going to pull the trigger. We feel like we are running good enough to be in the top 10 in points. We want to try to conduct our test schedule so we can build momentum for the last 10 races heading into The Chase, then also have some tests left for those last 10. That’s been our strategy all along and it will continue to be our strategy.”
