Chevy American Revolution 400 - Carl Edwards Notes

Richmond International Raceway, May 13-14, 2005
NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series: Chevy American Revolution 400, Saturday at 7:35 pm (EDT)

Carl Edwards
Team: No.99 Scotts Ford Taurus
Crew Chief: Bob Osborne
Chassis: RK-249

Carl Edwards on racing at Richmond:
"I'm looking forward to going to Richmond. I tested there a week or so ago in the Busch car and I think I learned some things that will help me in both the Busch and Cup races this weekend. Richmond is a challenging track to drive but fun at the same time. The No. 99 team had a good run there last year and we are looking to continue that this week. One of our goals is to be in the top-10 in points and right now we're real close. We need to have some solid runs over the next several weeks so we can really secure our place in the point standings and look ahead to contending for a championship."

Crew Chief Bob Osborne on racing at Richmond:
"Richmond is a great track for a race. The No. 99 team had a good run there last year with Carl at the wheel so I know we are capable of good things there. We need to stay focused and continue to do what we know how to do and with that, we'll be able to run up front and get back into the top-10 in points. We have to keep our eye on the ball and learn from our mistakes while moving ahead to the next race. We've got a great driver and a great team and I truly believe we can be in the 'chase' at the end of 26 races."

Fast Facts

  • In three starts at Richmond International Raceway (one in the Cup Series and two in the Truck Series), Carl Edwards has one top-five and two top-10 finishes. Last year in the No. 99 Ford, Edwards raced in the top-10 all night and finished sixth in only his fourth NEXTEL Cup start.
  • Edwards currently sits 13th in the overall point standings, just 16 points out of 10th. He is one of only 15 drivers eligible for the NEXTEL Cup trophy right now.
  • The No. 99 Ford will sport a special paint scheme this weekend. The Ford will carry the black, white and champagne paint scheme of the RoundUp X brand for Scotts/Miracle-Gro.
  • RK-249 is the same chassis Edwards raced at Phoenix a few weeks ago to a seventh place finish.
