KASEY KAHNE QUOTES
“Evernham Motorsports is building us really good short-track Dodge Chargers, and I’m excited to take another new Evernham chassis to Martinsville. I feel like we should be pretty good. I had a good race there the last time. Hopefully, we can build on that and have a good day.
“I’m starting to feel comfortable on the short tracks. I’ve always enjoyed racing on the short tracks; it’s taken a little longer to figure them out. I think we made a lot of progress last year and should have a good race. It’s tight, close racing so you have to be alert and not get caught up in someone’s mistake. You have to control where you are at, control what is going on around you and be part of everything…not find yourself in a bad situation because you aren’t paying attention to what is going on.
“It’s really important to have a good handling car with good brakes. The whole setup needs to be on to run good at Martinsville.”
STATS & FACTS
KASEY KAHNE AT MARTINSVILLE
This weekend will mark Kahne’s third NASCAR Nextel Cup Series start at Martinsville. Kahne earned his best finish of 13th in his most recent visit to the track last fall.
The 2004 spring race at Martinsville was Kahne’s first start at the racetrack. Kahne worked up from his track-best 15th place starting position to lead one lap on the day. However, a blown tire required an unscheduled pit stop late in the race, relegating Kahne to a 21st place finish.
NEW EVERNHAM CHASSIS
Kahne will be taking another brand new Evernham Motorsports chassis to Martinsville. He also ran a new EMS chassis at Bristol. Even though the car had never been tested, it was fast off the truck – among the top 10 in practice, qualified in the top 10 and ran in the top 10 most of the day until being caught up in a 15-car mishap late in the race.
TESTING, TESTING…
Kahne and the No. 9 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Charger team are testing at Caraway Speedway this Tuesday, April 5, along with Evernham Motorsports teammate Jeremy Mayfield in the No. 19 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Charger. The .455-mile asphalt oval speedway is located in Asheboro, N.C., and plays host to the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series among many other events.
GEORGIA ON HIS MIND
Kahne’s fifth place finish at Atlanta Motor Speedway in March, was his third consecutive top-five finish at the track (third, fifth and fifth, respectively). Kahne’s average finish of 4.33 is best among all active drivers with three or more starts at Atlanta.
