Bobby Hamilton Jr. Event Preview
HICKORY, N.C., (August 16, 2005) – Bobby Hamilton Jr. will return to the driver’s seat of the No. 32 Tide/Downy Chevrolet for this weekend’s running of the GFS Marketplace 400 at Michigan International Speedway (MIS). He’s got a one-track mind and that’s to give his sponsor, Tide, its second win at the 2.0-mile facility. The Tide ride’s last visit to Michigan’s victory lane came on June 20, 1993.
As for PPI Motorsports, the organization knows how to get around the track since it captured the Bud Pole award and a runner-up finish for Tide in 2001. With the driver and the veteran PPI crew working together, their combined efforts should yield a solid-result on Sunday.
Bobby Hamilton Jr., driver of the No. 32 Tide/Downy Chevrolet Monte Carlo:
Are you looking forward to a second stab at Michigan?
“Absolutely, I’ve run pretty well at Michigan in the past so I was disappointed that we didn’t do well last time. We finished 31st. We just didn’t seem to get the tires working for us. The car would take off but after 10 or so laps, the right-front tire would get worn out and we’d have to drop back to manage the tire wear for the rest of the run. Hopefully, we’ve learned a few things since then. Plus, we’ve got Danny Gill on board with us as crew chief this go around. Danny has been instrumental in the redesign of the car we’re taking this weekend. This is the first time we are racing a car that has a “Gill” body on it. I am hoping for good things and a solid improvement from the last race we’ve run at Michigan. I am hoping for a top-25 finish. If this team can keep stringing top-25s together then I’ll be happy. That’s a realistic finish for us.”
