Ryan Newman/Lowe's Motor Speedway Advance

NNCS Notes:

  • Ryan Newman, driver of the No. 12 Alltel Dodge, will make his 10th Lowe's Motor Speedway start and his 147th in the NASCAR Cup Series this Saturday.
  • In his nine previous LMS starts, Newman has posted three top-five and four top-10 finishes.
  • Newman finished fifth at LMS in May. He finished 14th in this race one year ago, after being involved in a late-race accident while running third.
  • In nine qualifying attempts, Newman has started within the top-four all nine times. Newman has earned five Bud Poles at the speedway. In May, Newman set the track qualifying record of 192.988 miles per hour or 27.981 seconds.
  • Newman's average LMS start of 2.11 leads all drivers.

  • Although the Alltel team finished 23rd at Kansas Speedway last weekend, the team remains second in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series point standings. Newman was eighth in the standings at this point in the 2004 season.

  • Thus far in the 2005 "Chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup," Newman is one of only three drivers to post three top-five finishes. .
  • Last week at an Alltel retail store in Tampa, Fla., Ryan awarded one Alltel customer, Joe DiCorte of Tampa, Fla. an all-expense paid trip to this weekend's race at LMS. Joe DiCorte's name will be placed under the Alltel logo on the deck lid of the No. 12 Alltel Dodge for the race, as part of Alltel's 'Go Racing With Ryan' giveaway.
  • The UAW-GM Quality 500 will air live on NBC at 7 p.m., EDT on Saturday, Oct. 15 and can be heard on PRN Radio.

    NNCS Stats:

    Quotes:
Newman on LMS: "Well, we've proven that we have a fast car at Lowe's Motor Speedway. The Alltel Dodge has been great every time we've gone to the track. We keep qualifying well, but just can't get that elusive win for Roger Penske.

"We're disappointed with our finish last weekend in Kansas, but we're not letting that get us down. We're still second in points and we've still got a shot at this championship. If that was our one 'mulligan' then I think we'll be ok. We just can't have any more finishes like that.

"We're going to have Joe, an Alltel customer's, name on our car this weekend. Maybe he'll bring us some good luck and we'll get back up there with Tony [Stewart]."
