Coca-Cola 600 - Mike Bliss Notes

Mike Bliss, driver of the NetZero Best Buy Chevrolet, will make his 47th NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series start when the green flag drops for the Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe's Motor Speedway Sunday.

BLISS ON CHARLOTTE..."We're looking forward to this weekend, especially after last weekend. We tested two cars there a couple of weeks ago and even though the NetZero Best Buy Chevrolet we had at the Open was really good, it wasn't the best car during the test, so as of right now we're sticking with the plan of bringing a different one back for the 600. I expect the track record we set last week to fall pretty much as soon as qualifying starts for the 600, but it was fun while it lasted. Hopefully we can go out there and put down a decent lap. It was pretty hard to pass during the Open and even though we've got 600 miles on Sunday, we still want to be near the front of the field for the start. We could get by people on the outside, but the inside just wasn't the place to be. Maybe once we start running some laps on the track, that will change, but if not, it's really going to be tough to pass. That will make you really think about pit strategy in the closing laps of the race if you get a late caution or something. The advantages of four fresh tires may not outweigh the disadvantages of losing track position if not everyone pits. It will be interesting to see what happens with the track as the weekend wears on and you have the Busch race and a lot of practice laps on it. I am sure everyone will be paying close attention to what the guys are able to do during the Busch race on Saturday."

CHARLOTTE NOTES OF INTEREST -

  • The Haas CNC Racing team will utilize chassis 004 for the running of the Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe's Motor Speedway. The team tested this car at the speedway several weeks ago, but it has not been raced this season. It was run in several events last season including at Kansas Speedway and in the second race at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway. It is a different car than the team ran last weekend in the NEXTEL Open.
  • Mike Bliss has made two NASCAR NEXTEL Cup starts in Charlotte. Bliss also has four Busch Series starts on the 1.5-mile oval. In a total of 6 events he has run at the track Bliss has earned three Top-five finishes.
  • Bliss scored his first Busch Series victory last season in the running of the SpongeBob SquarePants Movie 300 at Lowe's Motor Speedway.
  • The NetZero Best Buy Racing team spent two days testing at the speedway in the beginning of May in preparation for this weekend's event.
  • Bliss set a new track record on his way to earning the pole position for the NEXTEL Open last weekend. His speed of 189.208 miles per hour topped Ryan Newman's previous record of 188.877 miles per hour set last October.
  • Bliss will sign autographs at the Best Buy Fun Zone located on Speedway grounds from 2:30-3:00 pm Sunday afternoon. The Best Buy Fun Zone recreates a fully networked home within the interior of a 53-foot trailer. The truck showcases the latest technology offered at Best Buy stores, including products for a state-of-the-art bedroom, kitchen and high definition home theater. Also included are plasma TVs and audio systems that transform your living room into a movie theater, computers that let you connect faster than ever, and appliances that work smarter and harder for maximum efficiency.
