Bobby Hamilton Jr. Event Preview
No. 32 Tide/Downy Chevrolet Monte Carlo
Race 30 of 36 – Banquet 400
Kansas Speedway
HICKORY, N.C., (Oct. 5, 2005) - It is time to head home for Tide racing's crew chief James Ince. The Springfield, Missouri native considers Kansas Speedway his home track and is gearing up for an action-packed weekend with his driver Bobby Hamilton Jr.
Over the years, Ince has led a number of drivers to some 300 wins at tracks located just miles from the 1.5- mile tri-oval. He sees the Banquet 400 as another opportunity to add to his statistics by working towards getting his driver his first victory in NASCAR's top series. If the duo can accomplish the feat, Hamilton Jr. will become the first, first-time winner at Kansas Speedway since the track opened for NASCAR Nextel Cup racing in 2001.
James Ince, crew chief of the No. 32 Tide/Downy Chevrolet Monte Carlo:
Do you feel added pressure to run well at Kansas?
"No, I don't. Fortunately it works out as a nice scenario since Kansas is a place since day one that I have felt comfortable. I've never been nervous nor have I ever been worried about the setup. I do, however, find there is an added level of excitement for me because Kansas favors Bobby's driving style. He has done very well there in the Busch Series and quite frankly, we could do very well this weekend.
"With what we are doing right now with the Tide team ... trying to advance our program, it is really nice to go to a Kansas-style track to help progress our program. I've also had cars that have performed well in the past so that certainly helps."
What is the key to doing well?
"The key to a good setup is a fast car. It's all about pure speed at Kansas. My job is to get the car fast for Bobby and then adjust accordingly during stops based on his input. There's nothing really tricky about this place. You just have to be full blown aggressive in everything you do."
