“Road courses can be tricky. I feel like we’ve had a couple good runs at Sonoma, but it’s definitely a tough place to run well at. It all depends on the kind of car you have. You need to have a good setup that works just the way you want it to, and you need to have good track position. Track position is important wherever we go, but especially at the road courses because it’s so tough to pass on these kinds of tracks.
“It’s nice to mix it up a little bit in the season and turn left and right for a change. I always enjoy getting out and racing on the west coast, and Sonoma is a great change of pace. There’s a lot do around there, and it’s just a nice part of the country.”

His best finish at the raceway is seventh, which he earned in 1999, starting from the 34th position. Mayfield earned his best start of fifth in the 1998 race.

Mayfield and the No. 19 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Charger team tested at Carolina Motorsports Park, in Kershaw, S.C., last Thursday, June 16. The team tested on the 14-turn, 2.235-mile roadcourse in order to prepare for this weekend’s race at Sonoma.
ADDING UP THE POINTS
After racing at Michigan, Mayfield ranks 13th in the Nextel Cup standings and is within striking distance of the top 10. He’s only 47 points out of the 10th spot and 148 points from fifth.
DEW CREW ROSTER CHANGE
The No. 19 Dew Crew added Jonathan Billy to the team as rear tire changer last weekend at Michigan. Billy will continue to support the No. 19 Dew Crew this weekend at Sonoma.
