Dodge/Save Mart 350 - Carl Edwards Notes

Carl Edwards Infineon Raceway Advance
Infineon Raceway, Sonoma, Calif.
NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series: Dodge/Save Mart 350
June 26, 2005 Sunday at 3:35 pm (ET)

Carl Edwards
Team: No.99 Office Depot Ford Taurus
Crew Chief: Bob Osborne
Chassis: RK-252 (Ran at Infineon and Watkins Glen in 2004)

Carl Edwards on racing at Infineon:
"I'm really looking forward to racing at Infineon this coming weekend. The No. 99 team has had some really great runs over the last few weeks and I think we have an opportunity to build on that this weekend. I tested there a few weeks ago and thought it was a real fun track to drive. I've been talking to my teammates and guys like Boris Said to get their expert opinion on the track and I think that will help a lot. We plan on practicing and qualifying on Friday at Sonoma then flying to Milwaukee for the Busch race. It's going to be a long weekend but I think we'll be good in both cars."

Crew Chief Bob Osborne on racing at Infineon:
"We had a decent test considering Carl's lack of road course experience. We weren't the fastest car but we didn't break anything and we were solid. I think if we can stay out of trouble and not break anything we should have a good run there. Of course Carl will be back and forth between Sonoma and Milwaukee but I don't think it will be a problem. As long as he gets enough sleep he will be fine and I think looking at past races he seems to do just fine with that."

Fast Facts

  • This will be Carl Edwards' first career start at Infineon Raceway. It will only be his second career road course race (his first was in Mexico City earlier this year in the Busch Series). In his first road course start, Edwards finished third in a backup car. The No. 99 team did test at Infineon in preparation for the upcoming race.

  • Pocono Raceway was the last track Edwards had his first career start at where he came from 29th to win.

  • Edwards currently sits fourth in the overall Cup point standings, just nine points out of third and 259 points out of first. Edwards is one of 11 drivers currently eligible for the NEXTEL Cup after 15 races. Only 11 races remain until the 10-race chase begins.

  • Edwards will travel between Sonoma, CA, and Milwaukee, WI, for the Cup and Busch Series races. This marks the third weekend in a row Edwards has traveled between two cities to race in both series.
