MBNA RacePoints 400 - Jeremy Mayfield Notes

No. 19 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Charger Race Facts NASCAR Nextel Cup Series --- Dover International Speedway

Driver: Jeremy Mayfield
Team Director: Kenny Francis
Crew Chief: Slugger Labbe
Team Owner: Ray Evernham
Chassis: No. 112
Car Info: EMS Chassis – raced at Bristol and Darlington

JEREMY MAYFIELD QUOTES
“We can’t wait to get to Dover. The No.19 team had a great run in the 600. The car worked great, the crew did a super job in the pits…it was a total team effort. The longer the green-flag run, the better our car ran. The 22 cautions didn’t help our cause.

“The best thing about Charlotte was the adjustments Slugger (Labbe, crew chief) and Kenny (Francis, team director) made on the car during the race. We got off track only once the entire night and even then, I could still drive the car. The crew had good pit stops. It was just a great team effort that gives us a lot of momentum going into Dover.

“It certainly helps when a team goes into the next race coming off a good finish. Add in the fact that we unloaded fast, won the pole for both races and had a chance to win both, it’s easy to understand why we’re looking forward to Dover. Then it’s on to Pocono, another good track for me.

“We gained a lot of ground in the point chase last week. We’ve been very successful at Dover and Pocono. This is our chance to move into the top 10 in the point standings.”

STATS & FACTS

JEREMY MAYFIELD AT DOVER

  • This weekend will mark Mayfield’s 22nd career start at Dover Int’l Speedway. He has earned four top-five and seven top-10 finishes at the track. He earned his best finish of second after starting 28th in fall of 2003. He has led four races for 208 laps.
  • Mayfield swept both pole positions at Dover in 2004, earning his second and third career Bud Poles at the track. Mayfield earned his first Dover pole position in fall of 2000.

    DOVER TRACK RECORD

  • Last June, Mayfield lapped Dover Int’l Speedway in 22.288 seconds, 161.522 mph, breaking Rusty Wallace’s track qualifying record of 22.505 seconds, 159.964 mph, set Sept. 24, 1999.
  • The qualifying record was the second of three records set by Evernham Motorsports last season (Kahne – Las Vegas and Pocono(a), Mayfield – Dover(a)).
  • Evernham Motorsports Dodges currently hold four track qualifying records on the Nextel Cup circuit, including Bill Elliott’s record run at Texas in April of 2002 (in addition to the above three).

    MOVING ON UP

  • After racing at Charlotte Mayfield leaps to 13th in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series point standings, just 24 points outside of the top 10 and 99 points from the fifth position.

    CREW CHANGE

  • The No. 19 Dew Crew roster added Donald Marvel as rear tire carrier beginning last month at Darlington. Marvel will continue to support the No. 19 Dew Crew for this weekend’s race at Dover.

    NEW EVERNHAM MOTORSPORTS CHASSIS

  • The No. 19 Dodge team has been very pleased with the in-house Evernham Motorsports chassis that it has run this year. The team will run the same in-house chassis No. 112 that it brought to Bristol and Darlington earlier this year. Mayfield started eighth in both races, and finished as high as 17th at Bristol where he ran competitively all day despite suffering from two dead car batteries. He said that his Dodge Charger was the best race car he had ever driven at the track.
