MBNA RacePoints 400 - Dover International Speedway
Greg Biffle Wins Hands Down in Dover Downs
It was as if Greg Biffle was on a Sunday drive, just enjoying life as a driver and avoiding the seven cautions and 33 yellow-flag laps. Well, we know Biffle, if there is a race he had to be involved in something and this one was no exception, but Biffle did serious damage to his car after the race in his burnouts. Go figure. Biffle pulled away to win by a vast margin of 4.281 seconds to win the MBNA RacePoints 400 at Dover International Speedway, scoring his seventh NASCAR NEXTEL Cup victory in his 91st career start. The win at "The Monster Mile" marked Biffle’s fourth victory in 2005, the most of any driver this season. He also won at California, Texas and Darlington. Biffle led two times during the race for a total of 150 laps, including the final 16; Kyle Busch, going for a three-race weekend sweep, led 90 laps on the day, while Elliott Sadler led three times for 128 laps during the event. But it was Biffle who scored his first victory in six races at Dover International Speedway. It was his second top-10 finish in six races at DIS, Biffle has now scored nine top-10 finishes in 13 races this season, second only to Jimmie Johnson with 10. Biffle remained second in the NASCAR NEXTEL CUP point standings, 46 behind of first-place Johnson. Biffle scored the fifth victory for car owner Jack Roush at Dover International Speedway (Mark Martin scored the other four.) This was Roush’s 80th victory as a car owner and sixth in 13 races this season. In his first race at Dover, Rookie Kyle Busch finished in the second position, scoring his fourth top-10 finish in 2005. Busch has scored four top-five finishes in the last six races in NASCAR’s top three series. Mark Martin came home in the third position, his 23rd top-ten finish in his 38th race at Dover International Speedway. Jimmie Johnson ended his day in fourth, while Rusty Wallace has one more shot at Dover to improve on his fifth place finish and get the coveted win at DIS before he retires.
Rain Washes Away Busch and Cup Qualifing
Steady rainfall in the Dover, Del., area forced the cancellation of today's MBNA RacePoints 200 qualifying session. Practice times, as well the qualifying session, for the MBNA RacePoints 400 were lost as well, and therefore the fields of 43 cars for both races were set in accordance of the NASCAR rulebook. Current points-leader Carl Edwards will start tomorrow's 200-lap Busch race from the pole position. Edwards currently leads Clint Bowyer by 171 points in the NASCAR Busch Series driver standings, and has recorded two wins while leading the Raybestos Rookie-of-the-Year standings. On the Nextel Cup side, current point's leader and last week's winner at Lowe's Motor Speedway, Jimmie Johnson will led the field to the green flag for the MBNA RacePoints 400 on Sunday at Dover International Speedway. Greg Biffle will start the race from the second position, while Elliott Sadler and Ryan Newman will start the Sunday event from the second row.
