MBNA RacePoints 400 - Carl Edwards Notes

Carl Edwards Advance
Dover International Speedway
Sept. 23rd-25th, 2005 NEXTEL Cup Series
MBNA RacePoints 400, Sunday 1:00PM

Carl Edwards
Team: No.99 Roush Racing Ford Taurus
Crew Chief: Bob Osborne
Chassis Number: RK-272 (raced at Las Vegas and first Fontana)

Edwards on racing at Dover International Speedway:
“Handling is really important at Dover. It’s pretty much a one groove track so you need to handle well through the center of the corners in order to keep your position. If we can get the No. 99 Office Depot Ford handling well I think we’ll be good. In the spring we didn’t handle as well as we should have so we were getting passed in the center of the corners and that hurt us a lot. We have one ‘Chase’ race under our belt and we finished 19th. I think championships are defined by your bad days and if that’s a bad day for us, I think we have a chance at the championship.”

Crew Chief Bob Osborne on racing at Dover International Speedway:
“We have not run as well as we would have liked the last couple times but we continue to improve and that's encouraging. I think with some fine tuning and more practice, we'll be just fine. Dover is a really unique track. It's different from any other track in that you drop off into the corner whereas at the other tracks you run up a hill into the corners. You have to have a brave driver to be fast at Dover. You have to have a driver that's not worried about how he's going to land when he drives off into the corner and I think we have that kind of driver. If we can score a top 10 at Dover I think we’ll be looking good in the point standings, we just need to survive.”
