Pepsi 400 - Mike Bliss Notes

Mike Bliss, driver of the NetZero Best Buy Chevrolet, will make his 52nd NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series start when the green flag drops for the Pepsi 400 at Daytona International Speedway Saturday evening.

BLISS ON DAYTONA INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY... "We've got to find a way to stop the bleeding. These last couple of weeks have been really rough. Last week in Sonoma we got involved in a couple of things that weren't of our making, which is bound to happen once in a while, but that on top of the way things have been going for us was hard to take. We work too hard on this NetZero Best Buy team to be where we are right now, so we've just got to make it our goal to find the Top 20 and stay there all weekend. We need to stay out of trouble and finish this race.

"We've got a brand new car this weekend. The team went down to Daytona and shook it down a couple of weeks ago with Justin (Labonte) behind the wheel. So hopefully we can roll of the truck pretty good. We weren't bad in February and I've got plans to race in the Busch race this weekend too. I think there will be a good opportunity - with all the Cup guys that are entered in that race - to make some drafting partner friends that may help us Saturday. I know we've got the horsepower we need from our Hendrick Engine and I'm sure this new car is a good one, so there isn't any reason to think we can't get ourselves back on track this weekend. As usual, we'll just need to avoid trouble on the track and we should be ok. We're a much better team than the results have been showing for the last couple of weeks."

DAYTONA NOTES OF INTEREST -

  • The Haas CNC Racing team will utilize chassis 007 for the running of the Pepsi 400 Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. This is not the same chassis that ran earlier this season in Daytona or Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway. This particular No. 0 Chevrolet is new to the NetZero Best Buy Racing stables. The team took the car to the Speedway for testing several weeks ago with Justin Labonte behind the wheel while Mike Bliss recovered from hernia surgery.
  • Bliss has earned one pole position in Daytona and has five Top-10 starts to his credit.
  • In addition to competing in the NEXTEL Cup event this weekend, Bliss will handle driving duties in the No. 30 Smith & Wesson Chevrolet for SKI Motorsports during the NASCAR Busch Series event. It will be the first Busch Series race that Bliss has participated in this season. Bliss finished fifth in the Busch Series driver points last year.
