Carl Edwards #99 Pennzoil Platinum Ford
Pepsi 400/Daytona International Speedway
July 2, 2005
Carl Edwards:
"After last week at Sonoma I'm really looking forward to going to Daytona and having a strong run. I think the race this week will be important when it comes to making the 'Chase'. If I can keep the Pennzoil Ford out of trouble and finish up front I think we'll be in good shape. We have a fast car and a great team so it's not out of the question to finish well at Daytona. It would be pretty neat to win there and that's what we are going there to do."
Crew Chief Bob Osborne:
"I think we will be competitive this weekend, no doubt. The most important thing for us right now is to stay out of the wrecks and finish the race up front. I think a solid run at Daytona will be the key to making the chase at this point. Anything can happen and there are still several cars that are vulnerable right now and unfortunately with our wreck last week we are one of them. My goal is still to make the 'Chase' and I think Carl and the entire team are capable of that, we just need to finish up front and I know we can do that."
Fast Facts - Daytona
Edwards has one win at Daytona International Speedway. In February of 2004 he drove the No. 99 Superchips F-150 to his first truck win of the season. In his rookie debut in the Cup car, Edwards drove the No. 99 Ford to a solid 12th place finish to kick off what has been a stellar year.
Sixteen races are complete and with 10 races left until the "Chase", Edwards sits ninth in the overall point standings. He's currently 287 out of first and 59 points out of fifth.
The No. 99 Ford will carry the Pennzoil Platinum paint scheme this week, identical to the one that appears on the No. 9 Busch car.
RK-287 is the same car Edwards raced to a 12th place finish in February at the Daytona 500. The car was tested at the track in January of 2005 but has only been raced that one time.
Carl Edwards appears on the cover of TV Guide this week with teammate Mark Martin. Edwards will also be featured in a CNN Health Special on Sept. 25, 2005.
