JEREMY MAYFIELD QUOTES
“There's only one mission for a driver in the NASCAR NEXTEL All-Star Challenge...WIN. There's no concern about points. There's no concern about saving the car. It's 90 laps, 135 miles. To win requires perfection from the driver, car, crew chief and crew. Put it together and the reward is there -- $1 million.

“It's an unbelievable atmosphere both days. We're racing at home. It's a chance for our families and friends to come to the race with us. I'm ready now.

“The qualifying format creates a lot of excitement. The crews really get into it. It's about pride, being the best. Our guys take it seriously. Everybody gets pumped up. You can bet the No. 19 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Charger team is ready to perform.

“There's been some great finishes in past years, some of the most exciting in NASCAR history. It will be no different Saturday night when 20-some drivers do battle for the same piece of real estate -- victory lane. There's always fireworks in the race. This will be my sixth appearance in the event. Maybe this is the one!”

STATS & FACTS

JEREMY MAYFIELD IN NEXTEL ALL-STAR CHALLENGE

  • This year Mayfield will be making his sixth start in the Nextel All-Star Challenge, with one previous top five in the 1999 race.
  • Mayfield’s best start at the Nextel All-Star race was in 2000, when he started ninth.
  • Mayfield has raced his way into the All-Star event twice, in 1998 and 2002.

    NEW EVERNHAM MOTORSPORTS CHASSIS

  • The No. 19 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Charger team has been very pleased with the brand new Evernham Motorsports chassis that it has run this year. The team will run the same in-house chassis No. 105 that it brought to Atlanta earlier this year. He finished 13th at Atlanta.

    CREW CHANGE

  • The No. 19 Dew Crew roster added Donald Marvel as rear tire carrier beginning at Darlington two weeks ago. Marvel will return for both weekends of racing in Charlotte this month.

    HOLDING STRONG

  • After racing at Richmond Mayfield is holding strong at 16th in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series point standings, only four points behind Evernham Motorsports teammate Kasey Kahne. Mayfield is only 87 points away from breaking into the top ten and 150 points away from the top five.

    TURNING POINT

  • After testing at Kentucky Speedway in March, Mayfield’s No.19 Dodge Dealers/UAW Dodge Charger team improved upon breakthrough aerodynamic changes originally discovered in the Atlanta race. Mayfield was pleased to announce, "We said we were going to test our butts off at Kentucky and really figure it out. We hit on something that's going to be huge for us the rest of the year. It will get the aero balance back where it needs to be. This is definitely going to be the turning point of our season.”
