RIGGS FEELING BETTER ABOUT ATLANTA TRACK
HAMPTON, Ga. (Oct. 26, 2005)— Atlanta Motor Speedway has produced a number of highs and lows for Scott Riggs.
Five months after missing last year’s fall event there, the team returned to the 1.54-mile track in March and ran in the top 10 throughout the event before bringing home a ninth-place finish.
Riggs hopes another strong performance is in store this weekend when he revisits the oval to compete in Sunday’s Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500.
As part of a five-race primary sponsorship package with Checkers/Rally's, the official Burger and Drive-Thru Restaurant of NASCAR, Riggs will be piloting the No. 10 Checkers/Valvoline Chevrolet this weekend.
“Atlanta has definitely given us our share of ups-and-downs over the past year,” said Riggs. “We went from not making the show last fall to having a car capable of winning the race this spring. Even though we came here in March and had a strong finish, it was this event last year we missed, so to make amends we really want a solid run Sunday.”
In his 21 years of competitive racing, including motocross, late models, mini-stock and all three NASCAR series', last fall was the first event Riggs has failed to qualify for.
“That was definitely the low-point of my career,” said Riggs. “I’d never missed a race before in my life and I never want to again. Hopefully this weekend will mirror our March performance and we can erase last year’s debacle.”
Riggs hopes his team can end the year on a high-note and thinks the remaining NASCAR schedule supports that effort. He plans to start this weekend in Atlanta.
“We should run well at the final four races,” said Riggs. “We started this year off with a bang but have struggled with things since then. With just a handful of races left, it’s important that we end the season on a positive note. Hopefully things will get started this weekend.”
