DAVE BLANEY QUOTES:
You had a good run last week at Martinsville and this week we head to Atlanta where you’ve performed very well in years past. Are you excited about this weekend?
“Atlanta is probably my favorite track where the NEXTEL Cup Series races if I had to pick one. We were there testing a week ago and it seemed really slippery – a lot slipperier than normal. I was a little bit shocked but it will be good on race day; it always is. You can run anywhere you want on that race track. It will be fun. It’s always fun.”
How did the test go?
“We probably learned some stuff, whether it will fly I don’t know. Usually when you test there you come back and the track is completely different. I’ve had that happen a couple different times. Hopefully, we learned something and if the track comes back around like it was maybe we’ll know what to do or what not to do. We got some laps. Hopefully, it won’t get us off base. I hope the track is close the way we left it.”
Since the tornado devastated the track in July are there any noticeable differences to the racetrack?
“No, not really. The only thing you miss is that big scoring tower – it’s gone but everything else looks the same. The suites, I guess on the back straightaway, they didn’t have something finished over there but the front side looks the same. They did a lot of work and did great job.”
You’re taking a car that is fairly new and one you’ve run pretty well with. Does that make you a little more eager to get the weekend going?
“It was a brand new car at Kansas and we raced it at Charlotte, too, so that’s the car we’re taking to Atlanta. It’s been the best car I’ve had all year as far as downforce and aero numbers go. We’ve been hurting a little bit on that size track so, hopefully, we’ll have a good day.”
