600TH 'SUPERSPEEDWAY' START FOR LABONTE:
This weekend's Sirius at The Glen will mark Terry Labonte's 600th career start on a superspeedway (tracks one mile in length or longer), 17 of which have come on Watkins Glen's 2.45-mile road course. Labonte has won four NASCAR Busch Series races at the venue, but is still seeking his first Cup Series victory there. He has finished second twice, to Rusty Wallace in 1987 and Geoffrey Bodine in 1996, and has two pole positions (1987 and 1991).
HMS CARRIES MOMENTUM TO WATKINS GLEN:
With Jeff Gordon's triumph at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday, Hendrick Motorsports has earned eight victories and seven pole positions in the last 14 NEXTEL Cup events dating back to the 500-lapper at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway on April 18. During that stretch, a Hendrick team has either finished first, earned the pole or won from the pole in 12 of those 14, with the only exceptions being Dover, Del., in June and Loudon, N.H., in July.
LABONTE PICKING UP PLACES:
Labonte's finishing position has been higher than his starting spot in 15 of the 21 races run thus far in 2004, including eight of the last 12.
DIJ@ VU FOR '5' TEAM:
With six top-10 finishes to date, Labonte and Kellogg's Racing are right where they were after 21 races a year ago, when the team finished the season with nine top-10s, including their Labor Day weekend victory at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway.
LABONTE DNF-FREE SINCE '91:
Labonte carries an impressive streak of finishing efforts into this weekend's road race at Watkins Glen. He has been running at the finish of his last 11 starts at The Glen, with his most recent DNF coming in 1991. The two-time champion did sit out the 2000 running of the race while recovering from injuries suffered a month earlier in the Pepsi 400 at Daytona Beach, Fla.
KRISILOFF EARNS TOP-10 AT LAKE ERIE:
Hendrick Motorsports developmental driver Kyle Krisiloff added to the team's ARCA Series success Saturday with a top-10 finish at Lake Erie (Pa.) Speedway. In his first-ever attempt on the circuit, the 18-year-old started third and finished ninth in the ditech.com Chevrolet. In seven ARCA starts in 2004, Hendrick's developmental drivers -- Blake Feese, Boston Reid and Krisiloff -- have turned in seven top-10 performances, including Feese's April victory at Nashville (Tenn.) Superspeedway. Krisiloff will make his second career ARCA start this weekend when the team returns to Nashville.
TERRY LABONTE, DRIVER OF THE NO. 5 KELLOGG'S CHEVROLETS: (ON THE REMAINING SCHEDULE IN AUGUST.) "We've had some good runs at Watkins Glen the last few years. We've got a new car built for Michigan and we're testing at Bristol (Tenn.) before the race there at the end of the month. I think we'll find the consistency we've been looking for."
LABONTE: (ON THE RACE TO NASCAR'S "CHASE FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP.") "We've dug a pretty big hole for ourselves. The wreck that knocked us out at Indy will be hard to overcome. But we're not giving up and we're not giving in. If we can't make the top 10, then we'll shoot for 11th."
