Sirius at the Glen - Watkins Glen International

Win at The Glen Easy to Stomach for Stewart
Tony Stewart overcame stomach cramps to dominate the Sirius at the Glen on the road course at Watkins Glen International. Stewart’s stomach was so upset at one point that he contemplated handing over the car to road-racing ace Boris Said. Stewart stayed in the Home Depot Chevrolet and went on to win the event at Watkins Glen for the second time, his third career road course win. Despite the stomach problems, Stewart was able to dominate the Sirius at the Glen, leading the event four times for a total of 46 of the 90 laps, the fifth time in 2004 that he has led the most laps in a race. Jeff Gordon was second on the laps-led list, pacing the field for 13 laps. Stewart pulled away to a 1.517-second victory over road-racing specialist Ron Fellows to score his second win of the season and the 19th of his career, moving into a tie with Davey Allison, Buddy Baker and Fonty Flock for 30th on the NASCAR all-time win list. Fellows’ runner-up finish was the best for a “hired gun” this season, bettering Scott Pruett’s third-place effort at Infineon. Mark Martin brought his Ford home in the third position, his 15th top ten in 17 races at The Glen. Casey Mears scored his career-best Nextel Cup finish, ending his day in fourth, while Dale Earnhardt Jr. finished in the fifth position.

Friday's Activities Canceled, Johnson to Start from Pole
Points leader Jimmie Johnson will start the Sirius at the Glen from the pole position after earlier inclement weather played havoc with the Watkins Glen road course. Officials struggled with keeping moisture from the track and canceled all Friday activities, setting the starting lineup in accordance to the NASCAR rule book, giving Johnson the top starting spot. Gordon will start alongside his teammate on row one, while Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Tony Stewart start from row two.
