Aaron’s 499 - Greg Biffle Notes

NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series: Aaron’s 499, Talladega Superspeedway, 4/28/04

Greg Biffle
Team: Roush Racing
Car: No. 16 National Guard Ford
Owner: Jack Roush
Crew Chief: Doug Richert
Chassis: RK-158 (took the pole at the 2004 Daytona 500)

Greg Biffle on racing at Talladega Superspeedway:
“I’m really looking forward to running both races at Talladega this weekend. Our restrictor plate program has come such a long way and it’s a good feeling to know you’re going to a particular track with racecars you know will perform well. Both the Busch car and the Nextel Cup car were top-five contenders at Daytona earlier in the season, but unfortunate circumstances took us out of contention in both races. We know the cars draft well and from there it’s pretty much just putting yourself in the right position throughout the day.

“The last few weeks have been really tough on both teams. The cars are running good but we’ve had some mechanical problems get in the way that have kept us from posting the finishes that we’re capable of. It sure would be nice to rebound with two strong performances at Talladega and get some much needed momentum going on both sides.”

Crew Chief Doug Richert on racing at Talladega Superspeedway:
"There will be a lot of drafting and a lot of green flag pit stops at Talladega because of the smaller fuel cell. I feel confident in our pit stops and we’re using a similar qualifying set-up to the one we won the pole with at Daytona. Handling is not quite as important at Talladega as it is at Daytona, so you may see some more aggressive race set-ups. You just have to hope everything goes your way and you avoid ‘the big one.’”
