Chevy Rock and Roll 400 - Rookie Post-Race Quotes
Where the Raybestos Rookies finished at Richmond:
K. Kahne, 24th
B. Gaughan, 27th
B. Vickers, 37th
S. Wimmer, 38th
S. Riggs, 39th
BRIAN VICKERS, #25 GMAC CHEVROLET: "It's just another case of our luck this year, I guess. A couple of cars got into it, whether it was by purpose or accident I don't know. I got turned around. Everybody checked up. We went low to miss everybody and a couple of cars spun high. The 48 got turned and hit the wall and came back down the track and got us in the right side door and here we are."
SCOTT WIMMER, #22 CATERPILLAR DODGE: "Just one of those exciting nights at Richmond. I had a really good car. I'm really proud of my guys. Yesterday in happy hour we weren't really running that good but the guys went to work and had me a really good racecar. We were making it better and it looked like we were going to have a good run. It's just so tight in the back with the lap cars and everything and somebody ended up getting in the back of us and turned us around and ended our night. It was encouraging because we had a really fast car and we'll look on to next week."
KASEY KAHNE, #9 DODGE DEALERS/UAW DODGE: "We didn't get in the deal. I thought that we were going to have a good enough car during the race to get in there and it just didn't happen. We'll try to win some races, I guess." IS THIS A LETDOWN FOR ALL YOU GUYS? "Right now it is. It's a huge letdown right now. It's like 'What do you race for now?' We'll just work on getting Raybestos Rookie of the Year now. It's great that they're in it [teammate Jeremy Mayfield]. It's nice for our team. We've worked as a team all year long. It was good that one of us got in there. I was thinking that it was going to be us and it ended up being them. Going into this race he probably thought that we had a better chance and he did too but they got it done today. They had the great race and that's what it took to get in." WHAT ABOUT THE INCIDENT WITH DALE EARNHARDT JR.? "I was going back to the throttle to get off the corner and I got spun around. I don't know what that was, but I would have never expected it, that's for sure." DOES THAT CHANGE YOUR GOALS FOR THE REST OF THE SEASON? "Well, it changes us trying to get a top-10 [laughs]. We can go for 11th, that's about it. We don't have anything to gamble on. We're doing everything we can every race." ANY SATISFACTION SEEING YOUR TEAMMATE GET TO VICTORY LANE? "I was real happy for him. If we didn't have such a bad race, everybody would be happy for him but right now it stinks not making it, it stinks running as bad as we did all night long. It's hard to get real excited for him but it's definitely great for Evernham Motorsports and for Jeremy and his whole team." WAS THE CAR WAY TOO LOOSE OR WAY TOO TIGHT? "It was everything. It was too loose, too loose. I couldn't even drive the thing and they finally get it to where it's so tight that you can't even drive it so I don't know."
TOMMY BALDWIN JR, CREW CHIEF, #9 DODGE DEALERS/UAW DODGE: "We just didn't get the job done tonight. We thought we had a car capable of running up front. We had some problems there and it ended our night." IS IT HARD TO KEEP IN MIND THAT YOU HAVE A RAYBESTOS ROOKIE DRIVER? "When you are in that position, it doesn't matter, really, Raybestos Rookie or a veteran. We just had to go out and do our job and we just didn't do our job. We didn't have a good night, plain and simple." WAS IT ONE THING OR SEVERAL LITTLE THINGS THAT WORKED AGAINST YOU TONIGHT? "Obviously, the 8 car spinning us out didn't help us at all but we should have been running a little bit better. We were coming in trying to work on the car trying to get it better. You try to do that all the time and the 8 car just spun us out but that's all right, no big deal." A LITTLE SATISFACTION THAT AN EVERNHAM CAR IS SITTING IN VICTORY LANE? "Our goal was to get both of them in but thank goodness we have one of our cars in. That's what it's all about. We just didn't do our job. They did their job tonight and they are in the top-10 in and we're not."
SCOTT RIGGS, #10 VALVOLINE CHEVROLET: "It was my fault for losing the motor after qualifying anyway. We put a backup motor in and all the guys at Hendrick's busted their tail to help us get the motor in so we didn't miss any happy hour. We short pitted there because the car fell off a little bit on times and as soon as we did the next lap the caution came out and that put us behind and then we dropped the valve on the motor that we had in it. It was a bad luck situation for us this weekend." COULD YOU TELL THAT THE RACING WAS MORE INTENSE TONIGHT? "I could tell that some guys were driving a lot over their head and taking some stupid risks trying to get in that Chase, but for the most part everybody ran me pretty clean. If anybody would have given me disrespect out there, I had a lot less to lose. I would have probably paid 'em back by the end of the night."
