'25' LOOKING FOR REPEAT:
The No. 25 GMAC Financial Services team rolls into Richmond as the defending race winners. During the May event at RIR in 2003, the team led 156 of the 393 laps en route to victory. The performance ended a winless streak that dated back to November 2000 (82 races) for the "25."
EIGHT IS ENOUGH:
Team owner Rick Hendrick will be shooting for his eighth career victory at RIR this week. Hendrick Motorsports has seven first-place finishes at the venue, good for a tie with Junior Johnson and Bud Moore for second all-time. Petty Engineering is first with 15 wins at Richmond.
VICKERS AT RIR:
Brian Vickers, driver of the No. 25 GMAC Financial Services Chevrolets, scored his first career NASCAR top-10 result while competing in the Busch Series at Richmond in May of 2002, finishing seventh after starting 38th. In 2003, he posted finishes of 16th and fourth in Busch Series competition at the three-quarter-mile facility.
RICHMOND TEST FOR GMAC RACING:
GMAC Racing joined the No. 24 and No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports teams during a single-day test session at Richmond last week in preparation for Saturday night's race. Track officials re-paved the oval in October 2003.
HMS FLEXES QUALIFYING MUSCLE:
During time trials at Richmond last May, all four of Hendrick Motorsports' Cup Series teams qualified in the top-10, with Labonte earning the pole. The No. 25, No. 24 and No. 48 teams qualified second, sixth, and 10th respectively.
RICHMOND WINNER RETURNS:
The No. 25 GMAC Financial Services team will field Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 2544 this weekend, the same car used to win the 400-miler at Richmond last May. The team also used the same chassis to complete its recent test at RIR.
BRIAN VICKERS, DRIVER OF THE NO. 25 GMAC FINANCIAL SERVICES CHEVROLETS: (ON TESTING AT RICHMOND.) "We came away from our test at Richmond with some good results. Because we were there for only one day, we focused solely on getting the car comfortable in race trim and making a couple of long runs to give us a feel for what direction we need to be prepared for when it comes to making adjustments."
VICKERS: (HOW DIFFICULT IS IT GOING TO BE TO PASS ON THE NEW RACING SURFACE?) "It all depends on how much rubber is put down (on the track) throughout the weekend. All of the tire rubber from the Busch Series race on Friday night will definitely help for Saturday night, but it may be later in the race on Saturday before you see drivers starting to test out another groove."
