Back-to-Back Wins for Johnson
Jimmie Johnson won his second consecutive NASCAR Nextel Cup event on Sunday afternoon, winning the Subway 500 at Martinsville Speedway. Johnson also claimed the win last weekend at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. It was Johnson’s first trip to victory lane at Martinsville in six attempts and his first career short-track win. The pace car edged out points leader Kurt Busch to lead the most laps on the day, the pace car was at the front of the field for a record-breaking 125 laps. Busch would get the bonus points for leading the most laps, pacing the field four times for a total of 120 laps, leading the most laps for the fourth time in 2004. Johnson would lead twice for 67 laps on his way to victory. McMurray finished in the runner-up position, followed by pole sitter Ryan Newman in third.
