GFS Marketplace 400 - Greg Biffle Notes

NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series: GFS 400, August 22nd

Greg Biffle
Team: No. 16 National Guard / “The Flash” Ford Taurus
Owner: Jack Roush
Crew Chief: Doug Richert

Greg Biffle on racing at Michigan International Speedway:
“We’ve got a couple of wins at Michigan in the truck series and we had a really good run there last August in the Cup car. Other than that we’ve struggled at times there, but much of our problems were things out of our control. I really like the track and it’s fun to race on. There are plenty of different racing grooves, so if your car isn’t working in one place you can search around and find a line that may be better. The wide surface allows for lots of side-by-side racing so the fans usually get a pretty good show when we race at Michigan. Our National Guard car has been rebuilt to match our Pocono and Indy cars because we liked the way they performed. We led a lot of laps at California earlier in the year before we had a transmission problem, so we’ll take much of that setup and apply it to the Michigan car. Most importantly, we’ve got ‘The Flash’ this weekend and hopefully that will give us a little extra speed.”

Crew Chief Doug Richert on racing at Michigan International Speedway:
"We're taking the car we raced at Charlotte but we've totally redone it with the body build of our Pocono and Indy cars. I feel confident we can equal those two performances this weekend. We'll use notes from those two races for this weekend's setup as well as look back at our California notes. I think we can keep the momentum going from our top-10 finishes in Pocono and Indy the rest of the season. We've got some races coming up at tracks where we ran very well at earlier in the season but had something go wrong during the race. This will be our chance to go back and get the finishes that match our performance. I also feel really good about the batch of cars we're taking to the upcoming races. We've learned a lot throughout the season and have been able to apply that to these cars."
