UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 - Las Vegas Motor Speedway
Kenseth Deals Another Win in Vegas
To quote Yogi Berra, “It was déjà vu all over again!” For the second consecutive week, Matt Kenseth and rookie Kasey Kahne produced another one-two finish. Kenseth, the defending series champion, captured his second straight victory by taking the checkered flag for the UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Kenseth did not make this week’s finish as exciting as it was last week, finishing 3.426 seconds ahead of Kahne. Kenseth, who led the most laps in Saturday’s Busch race, was able to repeat that feat again today, staying at the front of the field for 123 of the event’s 267 laps. The win is Kenseth’s second straight at the Las Vegas track and gives Roush Racing a total of five wins in the seven races at LVMS. Kahne’s second consecutive runner-up finish comes in only his third Nextel Cup start. Tony Stewart brought his Chevrolet home in third, followed by Jamie McMurray and Mark Martin in the top five.
Raising Kahne: Rookie Earns First Pole Position
Fresh off a second-place finish in his second Nextel Cup start, rookie Kasey Kahne continued his hot streak with a pole-winning performance at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Kahne will start the UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 from the pole position after setting a new track record with a qualifying lap of 30.874 seconds, at an average speed of 174.904 mph. Hometown favorite Kurt Busch will start the event from the outside of row number one after posting a lap at 174.548 mph. Another rookie will start near the front, as Brian Vickers will roll off from the third position. Jamie McMurray and Ryan Newman start fourth and fifth respectively, giving Dodge three of the top-five starting positions. Dodge also placed a total of six cars in the top ten.
