Coca-Cola 600 - Lowe’s Motor Speedway

Lowe's Driver Johnson Dominates at Lowe's Motor Speedway
Dominant. There is no other word to describe Jimmie Johnson’s performance at Lowe’s Motor Speedway on Sunday evening. Johnson was in a league of his own, winning the Coca-Cola 600 while leading a near-record 334 of the event’s 400 laps. Johnson fell one lap short of the all-time record of 335 laps led by Jim Paschal in May 1967. Johnson visited victory lane for the second consecutive time in the 600, the series longest race. The win is the second of the 2004 season for Johnson and the eighth of his career, his last victory came at Darlington, seven races ago. Johnson becomes the first driver this season to win an event from the pole position and the first to win from the pole at Charlotte since Jeff Gordon in May 1998. Johnson gave his sponsor a sweep of the weekend’s events, as both Kyle Busch and Johnson put a Lowe’s car in victory lane at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. Michael Waltrip finished off a strong run with a second-place effort, while defending series champion Matt Kenseth finished in third. Jamie McMurray came home in fourth, followed by Elliott Sadler, who led 41 laps, in fifth.
