Banquet 400 presented by ConAgra Foods - Ward Burton Notes

Ward Burton will make his 352nd NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series start when the green flag drops for the Banquet 400 at Kansas Speedway Sunday afternoon.

BURTON ON KANSAS CITY."Every time we go to Kansas Speedway the track gets better and better. It's a relatively new track, a great facility and a great place for NASCAR to race, and the more we race on it the better the racing gets. Last year we started to see a little bit of a second groove come in and I think this year we'll see even more of that. The first two years we raced here I only managed to complete a grand total of something like 72 laps and we just couldn't seem to stay out of trouble early. So for me, the sooner the track starts to open up for more passing, the better."

We always compare this track to Chicagoland and this NetZero Racing team had a pretty good run at Chicagoland, so we are hoping to build on that a bit. Last week in Talladega we had one of our best finishes of the season and even though the racing is obviously completely different, it still gives you a little momentum and a little incentive to go out the next week and try your best to have just as good a run. Not that we don't work hard at it every week, but it gives you a little something extra to work for. Hopefully, our NetZero Chevrolet will roll off the truck and be good right out of the box. A good qualifying run would help us to stay out of trouble and if we can start off during Saturday's practice with a good base setup then we can just tweak on the car to make it better instead of making wholesale changes which end up putting you behind the eight ball. There are still a lot of things we want to achieve this year and time is running out."

KANSAS CITY NOTES OF INTEREST

  • The Haas CNC Racing team has opted to utilize chassis 004 this weekend. This is the same NetZero Chevrolet the team ran at the second event at Pocono (Penn.) Raceway.
  • Ward Burton has made 3 starts on the 1.5-mile Kansas City, Kansas track, his best finish being a 21st-place finish in the event last year.
  • The NetZero Racing team is coming off of its best finish since the first event of the season at California Speedway. Last week's 10th-place finish was the third Top-10 finish of the year for the team.
  • The NetZero Racing team remains in 29th place in the NASCAR NEXTEL point standings following the event at Dover (Del.) International Speedway. Burton continues to hold down 28th place in the driver standings.
