Track Milestones
•   The 2001 Protection One 400 was the first NASCAR NEXTEL Cup race in the
state of Kansas in NASCAR NEXTEL Cup (Grand National) history.
•   Jason Leffler won the inaugural NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Bud Pole at Kansas
Speedway on Sept. 28, 2001.
•   Jeff Gordon won the inaugural NASCAR NEXTEL Cup race at Kansas Speedway
on Sept. 30, 2001.

Track Update
Jeff Gordon won the first two NASCAR NEXTEL Cup races at Kansas Speedway
with Ryan Newman finishing second in both. Newman won the third race there
while Gordon finished fifth.

Qualifying
There have been three different Bud Pole winners in the three NASCAR
NEXTEL Cup races at Kansas Speedway: Jason Leffler (2001), Dale Earnhardt Jr.
(2002) and Jimmie Johnson (2003).

Manufacturer Update
Dodge swept the top-three finishes in the 2003 Banquet 400 at Kansas
Speedway with Ryan Newman, Bill Elliott and Jeremy Mayfield. While there have been
several times that two Dodge drivers have finished in the top three, that
remains the only sweep of the top-three for Dodge since they returned to NASCAR
NEXTEL Cup racing full-time in 2001.

Track Tidbits
•   There have been three NASCAR NEXTEL Cup races at Kansas Speedway.
•   Jimmie Johnson is the defending Bud Pole winner at Kansas.
•   None of the three NASCAR NEXTEL Cup races at Kansas Speedway have been
won from the Bud Pole, but all three have been won from a starting position of
11th or better.

Update of the Week
Jeff Gordon and Ryan Newman have posted top-five finishes in all three of
their Kansas races. Tony Stewart and Rusty Wallace have posted top-10
finishes in all three of their Kansas races. Johnny Benson and Dale Jarrett posted
DNFs in all three of their Kansas races.

Notebook
•   Thirty-one drivers have competed in all three NASCAR NEXTEL Cup races at
Kansas Speedway.
•   Eighteen drivers have posted top-10 finishes at Kansas Speedway.
Twenty-eight drivers have posted DNFs there.
•   Three drivers posted the same finish in each of their first two races at
Kansas: Jeff Gordon (first), Ryan Newman (second) and Tony Stewart (eighth).
•   Jason Leffler won the Bud Pole for the inaugural race at Kansas Speedway
- his only career NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Bud Pole.
•   Two of the top-10 finishers in the inaugural race at Kansas Speedway used
provisionals to make the field. There has not been a provisional starter
finish better than 18th in the two races since.
•   Thirteen of 30 top-10 finishers at Kansas Speedway also started from the
top 10.

The Chase for the 2004 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup
•   With seven races remaining, 10 drivers continue their Chase for the 2004
NASCAR NEXTEL Cup. First to 10th in the standings are separated by 280 points
with the biggest margin occurring between 10th-place Jeremy Mayfield and
ninth-place Jimmy Johnson, who are separated by 108 points.
•   Eight drivers in the top-10 in points changed positions at Talladega
Superspeedway.
•   All 10 drivers competing in The Chase for the 2004 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup
scored at least one victory in the first 26 races of the 2004 season. Busch,
Newman and Earnhardt Jr., posted victories in the first three races of the 10-race
Chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup.
•   Kurt Busch is the only driver that has scored top-five finishes in each
of the first three races in The Chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup.
•   Busch and Earnhardt Jr., are the only drivers to score top-10 finishes in
the first three races in The Chase.
•   Three of the 10 drivers in The Chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup posted
top-10 finishes in the 2004 EA Sports 500.

The Point-race Shuffle Continues
Just 61 points separate the top-three drivers in the NASCAR Top 10
(Earnhardt, Busch and Gordon).

The Other Chase
Approximately $1 million will be paid to the driver who finishes 11th in
the final NASCAR NEXTEL Cup point standings – an increase of more than
$400,000 over one year ago. That includes a $250,000 bonus, which will be paid to the
11th-place finisher. Additionally, the 11th-place driver will also join the
top-10 drivers on the stage at the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Awards Banquet in New York
in December. Currently, Jamie McMurray holds the 11th position by 36 points
over 12th-place Kevin Harvick.

Leading The Way in 2004
Jeff Gordon is the only driver to lead at least one lap in 22 races in
2004.

Maintaining a Top-10 Standard
Four drivers have remained in the top-10 in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup point
standings all season: Dale Earnhardt Jr., Tony Stewart, Elliott Sadler and Matt
Kenseth.  Kenseth has ranked in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Top 10 for 64 straight
races.

Kansas Milestone
Michael Waltrip is expected to make his 600th career NASCAR NEXTEL Cup
start at Kansas Speedway.

Strong Starter at Kansas Speedway
Jeff Gordon has posted three straight top-10 starts at Kansas Speedway,
the only driver to do so.

Winning From Up Front at Kansas
All three of the races at Kansas have been won from a starting position
of 11th or better.  No driver has won from the Bud Pole. Jeff Gordon won the
inaugural race at Kansas from the second-place starting position.

All Three Times
•   Ryan Newman has posted three top-five finishes, including one victory, in
three races at Kansas. Newman posted two second-place finishes before scoring
a victory there one year ago. 
•   Jeff Gordon has posted three top-five finishes, including two victories,
in three races at Kansas.
•   Tony Stewart has posted three top-10 finishes in three races at Kansas.
•   Rusty Wallace has posted three top-10 finishes in three races at Kansas.

Manufacturer Dominance
A Chevrolet has won two races at Kansas Speedway. Dodge has one victory
and Ford still seeks their first.

And Beat Goes On for 10 drivers
Rusty Wallace, Tony Stewart, Ken Schrader, Ricky Rudd, Ryan Newman, Joe
Nemechek, Jamie McMurray Kevin Harvick, Robby Gordon and Jeff Gordon are the
only active drivers that have been running at the finish in all three of their
races at Kansas.

•   31 drivers have competed in all three races at Kansas Speedway.
•   There have been three different Bud Pole winners in three races at Kansas
(Leffler, Earnhardt Jr. and Johnson).
•   Jeff Gordon leads all drivers with two victories at Kansas.
•   Ryan Newman and Jeff Gordon lead all active drivers with three top-five
finishes in three races at Kansas.
•   Rusty Wallace, Jeff Gordon, Ryan Newman and Tony Stewart  lead all

•   Jeff Gordon has led 169 laps at Kansas Speedway, more than any other
driver. Gordon has led in two of his three races at Kansas. He did not lead there
one year ago when he finished fifth.
•   Dale Earnhardt Jr., is the only driver that has led in all three races at
Kansas.
•   Jimmie Johnson has a 1.50 starting average in two races at Kansas, the
best of all drivers.
•   Ryan Newman has a 1.667 average finish in three races at Kansas, the best
of all drivers.

Chase Success at Kansas
Five of the 10 drivers in The Chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup finished in
the top 10 at Kansas one year ago: Ryan Newman (first), Jeremy Mayfield
(third), Tony Stewart (fourth), Jeff Gordon (fifth) and Jimmie Johnson (seventh).

Kansas “The Spoiler” for some of the Top 10?
•   Kurt Busch has finished 40th and 31st in his last two races at Kansas.
•   Mark Martin has finished 20th and 25th in his last two races at Kansas.
•   Elliott Sadler has not posted a top-15 finish in three races at Kansas.

Dale Jarrett has finished 30th or worse - all three DNFs - in three races
