JEFF BURTON QUOTES:
On Kansas Speedway –
“Kansas is a real fast race track. It’s kind of difficult to pass at Kansas, but the longer we run there it will make that second groove come in better and better. We went there and tested so hopefully we can take advantage of it. It was the first time we had been able to go test at a track that we actually race. We’re taking the car we raced at Michigan. I thought we had a really good car there, but it ended up not working out for us. Then, we ran it at California and I thought we had a real good car there, but that ended up not working out for us as well as I thought it could have. This will be the third time we’ve raced it and I think every time we race it we make it better, so we’re looking for good things at Kansas.”
On starting on things for next year since the team is not in the Chase for the Championship –
“In the position that we’re in, that’s all we can do really. We’re in a unique situation, we’re a new team, so we’re not only learning things that will benefit us next year, but we’re also learning things that will benefit us next week. Teams that have been together for awhile may not be in that same position. We need to take advantage of that to try to have immediate success and also be able to turn that into success next season. Because of where we are as a new team together, there is a lot of blue sky. Now what we have to do is put in the effort for next year because the rules are going to be different as far as spoiler heights and gear rules. So, we need to perform well today, but we also need to position ourselves so we can perform well next year. That’s a difficult thing to do, but that’s what we are trying to pull off.”
