Dodge/Save Mart 350 - Ward Burton Notes

Ward Burton will make his 338th NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series start when the green flag drops for the Dodge/Save Mart 350 at Infineon (Sonoma, Cal.) Raceway.

BURTON ON INFINEON RACEWAY."You've got to qualify up front if you want to have a chance at a good finish at a road course. There are few places to pass at Sears Point and there's a lot of follow the leader going on. Obviously, you need to stay out of trouble too. You find yourself off course and waiting for a tow truck to get you out of the sand and you're in a world of hurt. Patience is a key, qualifying is key and racing the racetrack is also a key to success at Sears Point or any other road course. From what I understand, they've repaved the track and it's really smooth and fast, so we'll see how that affects everyone. We've got a pretty good NetZero Chevrolet this weekend. We spent a day testing at Virginia International Raceway a couple of weeks ago and we were pretty satisfied with what we've got. We were pretty disappointed in our finish last weekend and we lost a couple in the point standings. We're still within shouting distance of the Top-15, but we can't afford to have any more races like last week. I think this Haas CNC Racing team is looking forward to getting to Sears Point to see what we've got."

INFINEON RACEWAY NOTES OF INTEREST

  • The Haas CNC Racing team has opted to utilize chassis 015 at Infineon (Sonoma, Calif.) Raceway this weekend. This is the same car the team ran at both road courses last season. The team also tested this NetZero Chevrolet several weeks ago at Virginia International Raceway.
  • Ward Burton has made 10 starts on the 2.0-mile road course. Burton has posted three Top-10 finishes at the track during his Cup career.
  • Burton has five Top-15 and seven Top 25 qualifying efforts at Infineon Raceway
  • Last week's 30th place finish cost Burton and the NetZero Racing team several spots in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup point standings, falling from 21st to 25th. Thanks to a tight battle, Burton remains only 57 points out of the Top 20 and only 177 points out of the Top 15.
