INFINEON RACEWAY
DODGE/SAVE MART 350 - Race Preview
Wimmer on Infineon Raceway…
“I had never been to the race track out there, but I got the chance to go over our off weekend in April,” said Scott Wimmer, driver of the #22 Caterpillar Dodge. “I went out there with road racer, Matt Riley from Charlotte, who is a noted road course instructor that has coached a bunch of Cup drivers in their careers, and he helped me a lot on where to brake and where to make my turns. It was a weekend well spent because I got to see the track, run a lot of laps and have someone there to coach me. We’re taking him with us again this weekend, so he can be there to help me out when I have questions and he can also get in the turns and see how I’m doing, what I can do to be better and ultimately make us faster. I think it will definitely be a learning weekend. I’ve only raced once at a road course, so I don’t expect to go out there and win. I just want to be competitive and not make any mistakes. I think if I can keep it on course and be aggressive, we’ll have a decent run.”
The Caterpillar team rallies to 14th-place finish in last weekend’s race at Michigan…
Wimmer competed in his first NASCAR NEXTEL Cup race at Michigan and finished a respectable 14th. The team had moved from 29th into the top 10 when they were forced to make an unscheduled pit stop due to the #22 overheating from debris on the grill. Wimmer pitted, the team removed a hot dog wrapper and sent him back out. As a result of the unscheduled pit stop, Wimmer was relegated to 28th position and one lap down to the race leader. They got their lap back and rallied to a 14th-place finish and gained one spot in the points.
