JEFF BURTON QUOTES:
On Homestead-Miami Speedway and the strongest average finish among all drivers … “I really liked and had success on the old track they had at Homestead. I won a Busch race down there and ran real well in the Cup car. All of my success was on the old track configuration that nobody else liked, except for me and Tony Stewart. Old stats don’t really mean a whole lot today since we run on the new track. The new track is very unique, although it is a 1.5-mile, fairly high-banked race track it really is unique. It’s different than any other track we go to. Turn one is totally different than turn three and there is a lot of grip. I like the variable banking. I would like to think we can go there and improve on our big track program. We’ve made steady improvements the entire time we’ve been together and I would like to think we can take advantage of it.”
For teams that haven’t won yet this season, is there added pressure to win the final race? “I don’t know. I don’t think so. I guess for some teams there may be, but we go into every race trying to figure out what is the best we can do – whether it’s the first race of the year or the last race of the year. Unfortunately, it’s been awhile since I have won in a Cup car – and that’s driving me crazy – but, we can’t change what we do because of that. Every week we have to work hard and race hard and be smart. We have to put ourselves in position to win and when the time is right, the time will be right. We can’t make something happen that we haven’t already been trying to make happen just because it’s the last race of the year.”
