MBNA America 400 - Rookie Post-Race Quotes

Where the Raybestos Rookie finished at Dover
B. Gaughan, 22nd
S. Wimmer, 23rd
S. Riggs, 31st
B. Vickers, 38th
K. Kahne, 42nd

KASEY KAHNE, #9 DODGE DEALERS/UAW DODGE: "Something happened to us right there on the frontstretch. It was big, whatever it was. They say it might be a flywheel so they're looking into that. We might be able to change it and get back out there. I'm not sure how bad it is right now but it definitely wasn't good." YOU HAD A GOOD CAR AT BOTH DOVER RACES THIS YEAR. "I think we did. We had a good car today. I was biding my time because it was early in the race. It was a little loose but that's a good thing. You want to start loose here and it gets better as you go. We were getting better but something just broke. I'm not sure if we're out for the day."

BRIAN VICKERS, #25 GMAC CHEVROLET: "We were pretty bad loose at the start of that race. I was just kind of moving around trying to find the line that would work and up high was working pretty good. I just kept going higher and higher and finally I just went too high and got up into the marbles and just went around. That was my bad." IS DOVER A TRACK WHERE YOU HAVE TO RUN A PERFECT LINE EVERY LAP OR YOU CAN GET INTO TROUBLE? "I think with the position that we were in, we were too loose. We were way too loose. We probably should have come in on that first stop but I didn't. Hindsight is 20/20 but that's just part of it. When you're loose and you're running real high like that, it's right on the edge. The car was getting better, especially up high the car felt so good. I kept going higher and higher and finally I got up into the marbles and that was it."

BRENDAN GAUGHAN IN THE #77 KODAK EASY SHARE/JASPER ENGINES AND TRANSMISSIONS DODGE WAS THE RAYBESTOS ROOKIE OF THE RACE AT DOVER. Notes: Gaughan finished 22nd and took top rookie honors for the third time this season. He also took Raybestos Rookie of the Race honors at Talladega and at California (April). "The guys worked hard all day. When the Kodak Dodge unloaded here it was a little unbalanced and we just could never get the balance right but it looks like we're the top Raybestos Rookie and that's only the third time this season we've taken home the honors. We'll take it and it gives us the most points and just try to get all the positives we can. Being top Raybestos Rookie is one of the things that we've been talking about all year so we got it again. We'll go to Talladega and see what we can do." DID YOU DO SOME EXPERIMENTING TODAY? "No, we kept having enough things to chase after. We were trying to get the lucky dog for the first three-quarters of the race and on that long green flag we never had a chance to get the lucky dog and then we had people to battle with. We were trying to keep chasing the racecar and try to keep gaining as many spots as we could. They guys never gave up. We had great pit stops. The guys did a good job. They work very hard."

SCOTT WIMMER, #22 CATERPILLAR DODGE: "It was a real tough day for us. We were just behind at the beginning and made adjustments all day long. We could get it good for a short run but on the long run we'd just get way too tight. It's so hard because if you're a little bit tight here to have any speed. The most important thing is that we finished. The last couple of weeks we haven't been doing a good job at that. We finished a race and ran almost all the laps so I'm proud of that. The guys had real good pit stops all day long doing a lot of adjustments just trying to make the car better. We just never hit on it and I guess you'll have days like that. Fortunately we finished and we can move on to Talladega."

SCOTT RIGGS, #10 VALVOLINE CHEVROLET: YOU SPENT SEVERAL LAPS IN THE GARAGE AREA FOR REPAIRS LATE IN THE RACE. WHAT HAPPENED? "I think the guys said that we had a wheel bearing going out on the left front. We came in and changed it out and then we ran about 40 more laps and had the same wheel bearing go out again on the different spindle, different setup, a whole entire different piece. I don't know what we had going on there. Something is wrong."
