Track Milestones
•   David Pearson won the first NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Busch Pole at Dover Downs
International Speedway in July 1969.
•   Richard Petty won the first NASCAR NEXTEL Cup race at Dover, the 1969
Mason-Dixon 300.
•   The NASCAR NEXTEL Cup race at Dover was changed to a 500-mile format in
1971 and then to 400 miles in September 1997.

Track Update
    In five of the last 10 years a single driver swept both races at Dover.
Ryan Newman was the most recent driver to sweep both races at Dover (2003).
Other drivers to sweep both races since 1994: Jimmie Johnson (2002), Tony Stewart
(2000), Jeff Gordon (1996) and Rusty Wallace (1994). 

Manufacturer Update
    Dodge won its first Dover race since 1975, when Ryan Newman won there in
June 2003, from the Bud Pole starting position. Newman repeated as the race
winner in the fall race, the first time Dodge posted consecutive victories at
Dover.

Qualifying Update
    There have been five different Bud Pole winners in the last six races at
Dover. Bud Pole qualifying was canceled due to weather in September 2003.

    Joe Gibbs Racing (three) and Hendrick Motorsports (three) have won six of
the last 11 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup races at Dover. Penske Racing (two), Roush
Racing (two) and DEI (one) have the other Dover victories since 1999.

•   The posted awards for the MBNA America 400 are $4,966,610.
•   The NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Leader Bonus is worth $80,000 for the MBNA America
400.
•   The MBNA Mid-Race Leader Bonus is worth $5,000 for the MBNA America 400.
•   The field will consist of 43 cars: the fastest 38 cars plus five
provisionals based upon current NASCAR NEXTEL Cup owner points. The 43rd position is
reserved for a past NASCAR NEXTEL Cup champion, if needed. If unused by a past
champion, it will go to the next eligible car owner.
•   Timed qualifying will be used to determine the first 38 starting
positions, with the provisionals added afterward as required.

to 2003), a sweep has occurred nine times – including three of the past four
seasons. Ryan Newman is the most recent driver to win both Dover races in the
same year (2003). Jimmie Johnson (2002), Tony Stewart (2000), Jeff Gordon
(1996), Rusty Wallace (1994), Dale Earnhardt (1989), Bill Elliott (1988), Bobby
Allison (1983) and David Pearson (1973) are the other drivers who swept both races
in the same year.
Notebook
•   Forty-two of 69 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup races at Dover have been won from a
top-five starting position while only 13 races have been won from a starting
position outside the top 10.
•   Four of the last seven NASCAR NEXTEL Cup races at Dover have been won
from a top-five starting position. However, four of the last nine races there
have been won from a starting position of 10th or further back in the field.
•   Jeremy Mayfield set the track qualifying record for Dover with a
qualifying lap in excess of 161 mph for the MBNA 400 “A Salute to Heroes” in June
2004. Mark Martin’s 97.042 mph average speed for that race was the slowest in the
69-race history of Dover.
•   Tony Stewart has two victories and 10 top-10 finishes in 11 races at
Dover. His other finish there was 11th in June 2002, which is also his only race
at Dover that he has not led at least a lap. Stewart has started from the
top-10 only three times.
•   Ryan Newman and Jimmie Johnson both have two victories in five races at
Dover. Newman has a 7.60 average finish while Johnson has a 16.00 average
finish. Both have competed in the same five Dover races.
•   Bobby Labonte posted 11 top-10 finishes, including 10 top-fives, in the
12 Dover races between 1995 and 2000. He has one finish better than 12th in the
seven races since: 3rd in June 2003.
•   Dale Jarrett and Kyle Petty have had 13 top-10 finishes at Dover. Jarrett
also has had 13 DNFs there while Petty has had 14.
•   Tony Stewart and Elliott Sadler have competed in 11 Dover races without
posting a DNF there.
Recent Rookie Success at Dover
•   Scott Riggs posted his career-best finish when he finished fifth at Dover
in June this season.
•   Jamie McMurray and Greg Biffle both posted a top-10 finish at Dover in
their rookie season (2003).
•   Jimmie Johnson won his first NASCAR NEXTEL Cup attempt at Dover (June
2002). Ryan Newman finished fourth in that race – also his first time to compete
at Dover. Johnson also won his second race at Dover with Newman finishing
eighth.
•   Kevin Harvick posted top-10 finishes in both of his races at Dover in his
rookie season (2001).
•   Dale Earnhardt Jr. finished 10th in his first race at Dover (2000).
•   Matt Kenseth finished sixth or better in his first three races at Dover,
including his career-first NASCAR NEXTEL Cup start (substituting for Bill
Elliott in September 1998).
•   Tony Stewart finished fourth and second in his first two races at Dover
(1999).
