Texaco/Havoline Racing Fast Facts:
Chassis #304: Crew Chief Donnie Wingo and the Texaco/Havoline team are bringing chassis #304 to compete in the MBNA America 400 at Dover International Speedway. This is the same car McMurray competed with at Dover back in June. Chassis #304 has been raced seven times this season, posting two top-five and three top-10 finishes.
The Battle for 11th: McMurray heads into Dover sitting 11th in NASCAR NEXTEL Cup points. While he missed making the cut-off for the Top 10 and the Chase for the Championship, McMurray still is in a tight battle for 11th place in points during the final nine races of the season. McMurray is only eight points ahead of 12th-place pursuer Kasey Kahne.
Dover Notes: In three NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series starts at Dover, McMurray has posted one top-10 and three top-15 finishes. The Joplin, Mo. native has posted seven top-five and 16 top-10 finishes through the first 27 races of the 2004 season. McMurray has posted five straight top-10 finishes.
Noteworthy: McMurray's 16 top-10 finishes this season tie him with Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Matt Kenseth for second most in the NEXTEL Cup Series. Jeff Gordon's 19 top-10 finishes lead the way.
Jamie McMurray Quotes:
“I’m really looking forward to heading to Dover this weekend. We tested up at Dover last week and had a very successful test. We’re taking the same car we ran up there in the spring. This Texaco/Havoline team has a lot of momentum heading into this weekend. While it’s still disappointing not to part of the Chase for the Championship, I feel like we’re showing that this is a top 10 team and we definitely should have been in the Chase had it not been for some bad racing luck.”
