MBNA America 400 - Brian Vickers Notes

VICKERS AT DOVER: Brian Vickers, driver of the No. 25 GMAC Financial Services Chevrolets, has made four NASCAR starts at Dover (Del.) International Speedway, qualifying inside the top-15 in each event. His worst start at the one-mile oval came when he qualified 13th in the May 2003 NASCAR Busch Series event. In his Dover NEXTEL Cup debut in June, the 20-year-old Vickers qualified third and finished 23rd.

VICKERS' 'MONSTER MILE' SUCCESS: In the two Busch Series events held at Dover in 2003, Vickers led 105 out of a possible 400 laps, finishing sixth in May and first in September.

'25' TESTS DOVER: For the first time this season, Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 2562 will serve as the primary car for competition at Dover. The No. 25 GMAC Financial Services team shook the car down last week during a six-team test session at the one-mile oval. Hendrick Motorsports teammate Jeff Gordon also spent the day at the one-mile facility in preparation for this weekend's 400-miler.

BRIAN VICKERS, DRIVER OF THE NO. 25 GMAC FINANCIAL SERVICES CHEVROLETS: (ON HIS RECENT TEST AT DOVER?) "Even though we were there for just one day, we were able to try a variety of different things during our test. We worked a lot with the front-end geometry of the car and found a couple of things that really helped pick up our lap times. I feel like we were consistently the fastest car there throughout the test."

(NOTE: The No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports team and driver Jeff Gordon also attended the one-day test at Dover.)

VICKERS: (HOW MUCH DID THE NO. 24 AND NO. 25 TEAMS WORK TOGETHER DURING THE TEST?) "We (No. 25 team) worked on some different things and they (No. 24) worked on some different things. Throughout the day we kept comparing notes, seeing if either team hit on anything major. There's a lot to be said about being able to test with a teammate, or another team at all for that matter. It lets you know where you stand throughout the day."

VICKERS: (YOU WON THE BUSCH SERIES RACE AT DOVER IN 2003. HOW MUCH DIFFERENT IS IT TO DRIVE A CUP CAR VERSUS A BUSCH CAR THERE?) "The difference between the two is minimal. The Cup car's longer wheelbase makes it a little more difficult to turn, but not enough that you have to change your line or the way you drive the track."
